And how can Archer be Shiro? I thought servants were summoned from history, and does Shiro get a super-tan later in his life? I realise that he had "ties" with Saber and the same skills. But still, I remember hearing someone say that the servants were epic heroes through history. And wth, how did Shiro get summoned to a war that HE stopped O.o? Yea, my brain hurts.

okay here i come to explain,shiro can't reinforce something he doesn't know it's composition,so the sword is out of the question since it didn't show itself untill the battle with rider.
and servents aren't summoned just from the past,they can summoned from all period of time,so past,present future,thus allowing shiro archer's exsistance within the past due to eh neckles she used saved shiro and shiro kept it as a momento untill the very end so it fits as a catalyst(i know it's hard to understand how did the catalyst was used even befor rin ever used the healing on shiro and summond archer befor).
and about the tan,possibly i mean his skin isn't that bright to begin with,and shiro was a very amibious man,her strived to save EVERYONE so he did whatever is possible to do so,hence the reality marble and another 2 features that wasn't shown in the anime,he could trace on swords from the reality marble and use them as projectiles without the bow and he has an all powerful shield that could not be broken even with the rapid fire of Gates of babylon.
so shiro was really EFFING powerful but the anime didn't cover it,but the man thing that broke shiro and causes him to die was inorder to save most of the people,you need to kill even more,so he became a sort of a massmurderer and was blinded from his true ideals,and i forgot about his death(but i think the novel isn't informing of this either) but he died while he was impaled to a bunch of swords.
