Hey, we wanna more!
OK, I'll try adding some entries. I'll be talking about the servants, OK? The Servants Saber: She is the legendary King Arthur, the reputed King of England who was directly descended from the founder of Britain, Brutus. Though many scholars believe that King Arthur was a legend, recent archaeological finds have given us definite hints that Arthur actually existed. Saber's characterization is actually symbolic of the mangaka's acceptance of the other theory of Arthur's great mystery: that Arthur was actually Arturia, daughter of the king Uther Pendragon, who was made king due to absence of any male heirs. Though this theory requires further proof, it can usually be assumed from a sociological point of view to be sound; Early Christianity was not liberal enough to allow a woman to be queen.
Later historians, particulary the knight-scribes of the Middle Ages, pounced upon the legend of King Arthur as a model of chivalric behavior and used his tales to teach the populace the values of honor. Popular throughout England, it also engendered interest in the real King Arthur, leading to extensive research in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. At present, there are three main theories: 1) that the portrait of Arthur as depicted in the romances is correct, 2) that Arthur was actually the legionnaire Arturus (depicted in the movie King Arthur), and 3) the Arturia theory held above.
That's the first part; next time, it'll be Rider, or Medusa. |
