Default Downloading through IRC

WARNING: VERY LONG
- maybe not worth reading, lol!

There are probably a lot of guides out there that are sooo much better, but since it was requested, I'll make one anyway! In this one I will download Gundam Wing episode 1, and I know that Baka-Anime has subbed the complete serie. Going to take small steps, so this one is prolly going to be very long =___="
May feel like a long journey when doing it first time, but after doing it for a while, it only takes a few seconds to half a minute.

Ok, I really suck at making guides, so go ahead and report the guide (and me) as broken... (the little red triangle at the buttom of this post)

I've divided this guide into 4 sections:
1st: Getting a client
2nd: Configuring
3rd: Connecting
4th: DOWNLOAD!

1: Getting a client
First you will need a client. The most used client would be mIRC, but of course you can also use sysreset or UPP or whatever you want. I think UPP is freeware, but not sure. I use sysreset, but fear not... the clients are almost identical!
Now pick one, download and install

2: Configuring
Run the program. On first start-up it will ask for some information. Fill in "full name", email and nickname.
Then click DCC in the menu to the left and tick the "Auto-get", "Auto-accept" and be sure to put the "If file exists:" on "Resume". Like the picture

You can set the download destination by clicking on Folder (submenu to DCC) and then Edit while marking "default" unless you download media-files too

Now click on the submenu named Server and tick off the points as on the picture:

Click "OK" (:

3: Connecting
Now we need to connect to a server. Baka-Anime's website is currently down, but Baka-Updates tells me that their IRC is #Baka-Anime@irc.rizon.net.
"#Baka-Anime" is the channel and "irc.rizon.net" is the server. First we need to connect to the server. This is done by writing:
/server irc.rizon.net

Now connect to Baka-Anime's channel by writing:
/join #Baka-Anime or /j Baka-Anime

Some channels may require registered nicknames. In this case type
/nick <desired nickname>
if you havn't chosen one already (without the <>). If it is taken, then pick another. Then type
/msg nickserv register <desired password> <email>
an email will be sent to your inbox, copy what needs to be copied and paste in the status-window. hit enter and your nickname has been registered unless stated otherwise. Now everytime you log onto this server, you will have to type
/msg nickserv identify <password>, or /ns identify <password>

4: DOWNLOADING! 8D
Hokai! Congratulations for making it this far (:
Always read the topic since it may contain tips to avoid a ban. Oh! theres a trigger called !trigger

Type it and press enter

exactly (:
now some triggers may pop up.
if there are rules, then be sure to read them! Or else you might get a 2hours to a permanent ban =/

ok, read the blue font, and you should understand what I'm doing. This channel chooses to send the rules in a .txt-file. Open the file and read... or if you're too lazy, then just look here:

make sure that you understand them. - especially rule 11 (and rule 1 and 13, lol).
ok, I think we're ready to leech off some bots :B. Rule 4 says that we can xdcc list the bots with the command written in ( ). The channel bots are:

though A|OtakuBot doesn't seem like coming from this team. Therefore I choose to xdcc list B-A|Pyon-kun:
/msg b-a|pyon-kun xdcc list

The rules told us not to write it in the channel-window, so I'm doing it in the status-window instead. Press Enter, go back to channel window, and you should see something like this

Sometimes bots write their packlist in the channelwindow, but not this one. We do as it says and types the command in the status-window

Ok, the bot sended me another txt-file. Open it and it will look something like this:

this is the bot's packlist. Notice the marked area.

Copy the command. Now scroll down and to the wanted file

look at its number and remember it. Gundam Wing episode 1 has #566

paste the command and the "x" after # with the desired number (#566)

if the bot has any slots open, your download should start immediately

(yay for fast bots ^^)

I understand if you got any questions, because I'm not so good at this.. post them below and I will try to explain it / solve the problem
