Samael is an ancient warrior who's origins are shrouded in mystery. At some point, Samael came to believe that he was in fact a child of one of God's angels. With his belief came his desire to work as the hand of God on earth. He was armed with a deadly cursed blade, named "Grim Reaper," and assorted daggers and wires. Along with his weapon skill is his latent ability to percieve things before they occur. This third eye has on many occasions allowed him to evade capture and execution. Samael commited countless acts that he deemed rightious and just, be it good or bad. He even went so far as to slay kings and aristocrats who were, in his eyes, unworthy of such grace. Samael's ruthlessness was so fierce that no man could escape him once he had passed judgement. Not wishing for glory, he performed his deeds in secret. Even so, stories of these feats eventually spread far and wide, raising Samael's legend to that of divine proportions. Samael had gone down in history as the Angel of Death. Despite his original intentions, Samael invited the idea of being an angel in the eyes of man.
Samael means "the venom of God." In legend, he appears as accuser, seducer, and destroyer. Samael has been regarded as both good and evil, being known as "the great prince in heaven" and the "prince of devils." Samael is said to be the chief ruler of the Fifth Heaven, a member of the heavenly host (with often grim and destructive duties). Though Samael is called a fallen angel, he nevertheless remains one of the God's servants. Samael is also said to control a massive army of angels; supposedly, he also commands an equally large army of demons. While having a human form, Samael is said to take the shape of a massive twelve-winged serpent.
Among his many legends, he was the guardian angel of Esau and a patron of the sinful Roman empire. Hebrew scholars say that it was Samael who tempted Eve in the guise of the Serpent. Samael is sometimes identified as being the angelic antagonist who wrestled with Jacob, and also the angel who held back the arm of Abraham as he was about to sacrifice his son. It is also said that he took Lilith as his bride after she left Adam.
Samael would be an unescapable force, always executing his targets with a 100% success rate. Eventually, the time came when even he would have his downfall. A large group of mercenaries would be organized by several influential leaders. Their target: Samael, the Angel of Death. These leaders, fearful of their lives, used their resources to pursue the assassin. After several years of failed attempts, the mercenaries would finally corner Samael. Samael's reason showed him that every possible path led to execution, he had finally been trapped. At this point, Samael vowed to heavens that he will not die until he can purify the world with God's divine light.
Personality
Samael sees himself as a servant of God before anything. He looks upon anyone in a higher position than him as a representative of God. The exception being people whom he sees unworthy of such a title. Otherwise he is quite the loyal comrade. He is also quite kind to others, easily earning their trust. Underneath this outer shell lies a cunning, deceptive, seductive and tactical mind, perfect for his life's work. He has long since lost his fear and remorse.
Catalyst
Samael left nearly no trace of existence behind to be found, meaning that the only remnants of him (aside from his legend) are in the possession of the Holy Church. In particular, daggers and other equipment were confiscated after his apparent death and can be used as catalysts (provided one can obtain said materials). Samael's blade was hidden away so that its curse would not someday taint the Church. That being said, its location is completely unknown. Most likely, it would be in a place where magic is strong enough to suppress its curse. Aside from these, Samael can be summoned by any man seeking to bring justice to the world. Abilities Magic Resistance Rank: C
Nullifies all magic that requires less than two verses. Cannot block large-scale magic such as great magic or ritual magic.
Riding Rank: B
The ability to ride things. Samael can ride most vehicles with above average skill, but he cannot ride those of demonic beast or holy beast rank.
Eye of the Mind (True)
The ability to effectuate rapid and precise judgements gained through experience and training. Samael is capable of calmly analyzing situations even during a battle, applying strategy and skills to turn the tables in his favour. As long as there is at least a 1% chance of victory, he is able to devise a plan to exploit that possibility.
Charisma Rank: B
Samael's natural talent to charm and influence others. It increases the ability of his deception, persuasion and seduction techniques. Charisma is a rare talent, and a rank B is enough to lead a country.
Divinity Rank: B
Spending his entire life believing to be an angel, Samael was granted his wish when he became a heroic spirit. Because an angel is subservient to God, the rank is reduced.
Transparency Rank: B+
Samael is a master of mercenary tactics, and has learned how to conceal his movements. With this he is skillful enough to move into buildings or castles undetected. He can still be located by Servants with keen skill.
Noble Phantasms Grim Reaper - Anti-Unit Rank: C
Samael activates the curse on his weapon of choice by calling its name, Grim Reaper. He then proceeds to getting close to his target, delivering a precise slash. If Grim Reaper's blade is to land a direct hit, death will immediately follow.
Venom of God - Anti-Army Rank: B
Samael leaps into the air and transforms into a large twelve-winged serpent. While in flight, Samael dives down and attacks the enemy. With his serpent body, Samael can make last minute changes to his direction. When his run is complete, Samael pulls back and reverts to his human form.
Angel of Death - Anti-Fortress Rank: A
Once Samael has revealed Grim Reaper, he gains the ability to activate this deadly art. Being glorified in life as an angel, as well as believing so himself, Samael gains the right to call himself an angel. By chanting "Angel of Death," six pairs of silver wings appear from his back. Samael then raises Grim Reaper and slashes, creating a massive, crescent-shaped shock-wave of silver light. This strike is capable of leveling large buildings and structures. This technique consumes a large amount of power, meaning it should be saved as a trump card.
