Good analysis...but if you look at it that way, if he decides to finally cut ties with Suzaku, and kill him, he risks losing the humanity he has, it is a good thing he still cares about that friendship. Also, you are right it is good to be overconfident, but it is also good to underestimate one's self, while retaining that overconfidence, cautious and a thinker, along with a sure-to-win attitude.
