hmm, yea, that's true, love/romance + mecha always gives me the idea of an anime like Gundam Seed and that wasn't the best with Destiny as a sequel, but if it were Mecha + Comedy then that'd be another story, then you can say Nadesico, Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventures and few more

but started this anime with Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu which was totally in the comedy genre XD then I found out it had a first season which surprisingly was also mecha, and then a third season came out, but still, Fumoffu gotta be the best of 3 :D
