I've recently gotten really obsessed with this serious. Just as much as with anime. ^^ If anybody has ever seen it or heard of it, I would love to talk to them about it. The series had seven seasons, and I think the last one ended about 5 years ago.

For a couple questions to start out with: What seasons have you seen? Who is your favorite character?

Well buffy dah! ... mm cute teenage blonde fighting vamp's,what's not to like.
I think i pretty much watched all of it,cant remember it was a long time ago.

I was a bit young for it when it was airing, so I'm watching it now. I'm just finishing the fourth season, and my favorite character is Willow. It all makes me very happy. But I always thought it was a show more targeted at girls then guys, since it has a feminist theme to it.

I remember we had to watch this show for literature in school. Our homework was to watch this. It wasn't a bad show. That's something i should watch again.

When I was younger I watched this series. But then it wasn't aired anymore :sic: So I bought seasons 1-6 last year and Have fallen in love with the show more and more. My favourite character is Buffy (of course) because she is the main character. I also like Xander very much because he is so funny XD and I still need to buy season 7....I want to see how it all end. :inlove2:

I love Buffy, obsessive fan here lol ^^
I bought seasons 1-7 in one big boxset a while ago (cos i only had videos, and they're dying from being overwatched lol)
My favourite character is Dru ^^

Anyone seen the original movie? different characters and everything but still good ^^ "how loose is your goose?"

Yay! Other fans. I've finished the fourth season now, and am excited for the next one. Nobody else likes Willow. :(

DanyDaray

What? nobody likes Willow??? Not true! Me like Willow!!!:inlove2:
She's so darn cute!!! (I have a crush on Alyson Hannigan only because of Willow, actually.... *g*), and without wanting to spoil anything for those who haven't seen all seven seasons - the powers Willow developes later on (season 5 and, of course, season 6) are awesome!
I never liked Buffy, though. She's... well, not my type *g*. Every other character is freakin' cool, except perhaps Dawn, who really started to annoy me after a few eps, but the others are just awesome characters and their developement is a lot more interesting than Buffy's, who is supposed to be the main char... I could rant on forever, like how hot and funny Spike is (and how he is a darn hero! those who watched season 7, you know why...), how I like Faith more than Buffy, how I love Dru's madness, or how Andrew ("you know, Tucker's brother." *gg*) sent me into never ending fits of laughter... but I'm gonna sum it up with: Yepp, I'm a Buffy-Freak, always were since I watched the show for the first time quite some years ago.

kami

Yes, Alyson Hannigan is very, how should I put this, beautiful? Attractive? (How are girls supposed to say they find other girls attractive?)

And I don't even know who half of the characters you said are. I guess a lot of new ones come in in the last three seasons. I'm excited! ^^

I love willow ^^ I'd gay for her :P

season 4 is easily one of my favourite seasons of Buffy, helloo, Hush? Such a genius episode.

Tara is a wicked character too.

kami
04-20-2008, 11:34 PM
Hush was a sweet episode. I also really liked the last one of the season, Restless. You know that part in Xander's dream with Willow and Tara... I hope someone knows what I'm talking about. ^^

Leni, I should talk with you more. You seem pretty interesting. ^^

lol, I am a girl, so how do you think I should say that I find her beautiful and sexy? I just say it *g*

@ leni: If I wasn't bi already I'd totally gay for Alyson, too.
Well, and when Tara showed up... I hated her! No, kidding, I like Tara, but.... gods, I'm soooo jealous!

I really liked Fate as a villain. I think a lot of girls are supposed to be obsessed with Spike and think he's really hot. But I don't know... ^^

DanyDaray
04-22-2008, 08:00 AM
Oh yeah, Spike's hot...*purr*....
hmmm and Faith is hot, too *g*... But she wasn't really a villain for me, she was more a tragic figure and for me she was more what I'd expect to happen to someone with a Slayer's powers than Buffy (ok, Buffy had Giles and friends and blahblah - but Faith's story was truely believable)... she was out of control and that made her even more sexy...
Glory on the other side was an evil goddess....

I love buffy. It's my fav. show. i was so sad that it had to end.

My fav season? the one with Oz. he was a cool sarcastic guy....

Omg I LOVED that show. I started watching it right after it ended, they started it from the beginning on Space here in Canada. My favorite character though was Spike. He was funny, cool and probably how I would be if I were a vampire lol. Not to mention he had some pretty hot girls (Buffy included lol).

kami
04-22-2008, 11:54 PM
Now I'm wondering if a lot of people who like anime also like Buffy. Because this thread is doing a lot better than I thought it would.

Sola

Lol its highly possible. Or maybe people who like buffy like anime O.o.. now THATS weird.

kami
04-23-2008, 12:00 AM
Which did you watch first? I should ask that question to myself, but I think I got addicted to both around the same time...

Sola
04-23-2008, 12:01 AM
I didnt really watch Anime Anime until after, but if you consider Pokemon and DBZ real anime then that was first.

kami
04-23-2008, 12:04 AM
Same here I guess. I watched DBZ while I was still in elementary school, I think. But I never got past the part with kid boo (probably spelled wrong).

Back to Buffy... What do you think about how they deal with homosexuality on the show?

DanyDaray
04-23-2008, 08:01 AM
Well, at first they were afraid they'd be burned at the stake if they got too explicit with that topic *lol*
but they relaxed in later seasons.... I mean, remember the first kiss between Willow and Tara - we never saw it, they blew out the candle but everybody knew what happened. Later on there was no censoring of their love anymore.
And then there was Andrew ("u know, Tucker's brother" *gg*) in season six and seven. First he was so in love with Warren, which was funny, and it was just so sweet how he had a crush on Spike... But because he never was a main character ('evil-super-villain' in s6, 'ex-evil-super-villain-tied-to-a-chair-most-of-the-time' in s7) his sexual preferance was only hinted. Remember when Warren, Jonathan and Andrew watched Spike and Anya having Sex in the Magic Box? The other two were like "Yeah, Anya!" and Andrew was like: "Spike's soooo cool...." looks at his friends in obvious panic, adds: "I mean, Anya's hot, too!" lol lol lol
Andrew had just the same fears as the producers had when they first came up with that topic in the Tara/Willow arc. How does the world react?

weirdnshort
04-24-2008, 03:10 AM
i wouldn't be too surprised to find that a lot of buffy fans are anime fans (or vice versa). The reason the show appealed to me so much was it flowed well, which happens in anime, i like story archs...

it's also the genre: fantasy.. well anime's fantasy :P

homosexuality? I think it was alright... not too much and it was there. I think it handled it very well. I think tara and willow's kiss was the first lesbian kiss on a television show..

kami

And yet I still wish it had come sooner. ^^ Ah well...

DanyDaray
04-24-2008, 12:18 PM
lol, yeah, they sure took their time... too shy, both of them *g*

Another question: Did anybody like soldier-boy-what's-his-name.... ah, yeah, Riley?
I personally did not like him. He was... too 'perfect'? At least supposed to be perfect. That was a bit too much imo. Liked when he got addicted to being bitten tough. He was a little more interesting then and at least a bit of his oh so smart mind was twisted *lol*

leni
04-24-2008, 02:17 PM
yeah, i never really liked Riley, i didn't like the episode where he came back with his wife, i still watch it, but i don't enjoy it as much as the others...

DanyDaray
04-24-2008, 02:33 PM

That episode was a bit out there. ^^

Also not a Riley fan. Not only is his name not that cool, he's just not very interesting as a character. Buffy could do better. And Spike is way cooler than Riley.

Did anyone else find the episode where Xander is split into two separate people really funny?

Would anybody vote if I made a poll on favorite characters?

DanyDaray

That EP was actually really cool. Maybe because I like Xander a lot, but the idea was good, too. Imagine that would happen to you...

i remember the guy who plays xander has a twin...
what's your fav. episode?
I think i liked it when Buffy died the second time... it was touching.. or maybe the halloween episodes (esp the second season's). I also like the musical one... Amber Benson (tara) and Anthony Head (Giles) have great voices

DanyDaray
04-24-2008, 07:20 PM
Dunno exactly which season, but I guess... season 5?

My fav Eps... hmmm.. that's almost as difficult as to decide which char I like most... But the musical was great, I agree. Like James Marster's voice, the ep was the reason I checked out his Band "Ghost of the Robot".
"Hush" was great of course
"Tabula Rasa" (6x08)
But I guess my all-time favs are those with "Evil Willow" lol
"The Wish" (3x09) and "Doppelgangland" (3x16)

hush is good. that's the one where they can't talk right? it was so creepy. Took a bit of acting skills because the actors were forced to only use facial expression.

yup James Marster too had a great voice. A couple of months ago i was listening to the songs from the musical (i also like that song about a parking ticket. lol it was hilarious and the singer had a great voice)
anyone want the album?

I still want this thread to live, so here's another question.

What characters died that you wish didn't?

DanyDaray
04-27-2008, 11:48 PM
Good one, kami! (lol, let's keep the thread alive by talking about deaths, I like that *g*)
The first that comes to my mind is of course (beware, season 7 spoiler!)
SPIKE!!! That was.... so sad. And.... way too heroic ;P but in the end for me Spike was the character with the most developement and even in the end he didn't get the love he deserved...Maybe his death was "good" for the story, but...THAT WAS TERRIBLE!!!! Ah well, he saved the world ;) I still hate that he did it, though...;P
Next, (seaseon 6 spoiler!) and in a way more cruel, pointless and sad then the one above:
Tara. I hated Warren for that. I had finally started to really really like her. And the way she died - so sudden, so pointless, so by accident - by a stupid misled bullet... it stood out in a world of vampires, demons and other evil creatures - because it was so trivial. I was really shocked.
Oh, and, of course, vampire Willow. When she returned to her world and was instantly dusted by Oz. I didn't like that.... As (human)Willow said: "She deserves a chance." I'd rather have seen vampire Willow ripping Oz to pieces. ;P
Who else died....? (Too tired right now, can't think of anyone.....) There were a lot of deaths, but they did not bug me like the ones above.

kami
04-28-2008, 12:56 AM
Well honestly, I haven't gotten to either of those. So if you could avoid too many spoilers that occurred after season 5 it would be appreciated. I already knew Tara was going to die, but not Spike... For now I'll just ramble. I hope you don't mind. ^^

I liked how Oz left. I liked how Angel and Cordelia left (they both got a bit annoying). Jenny Calender came to an abrupt end. I was a bit too sudden for my taste. Faith should have also hung around a bit longer. She was a great character.

Did you ever get why they added in Dawn Summers in season 5? I still haven't found a reason for her suddenly coming into existence, and it's a big weird. She makes Buffy seem too childish.

DanyDaray
04-28-2008, 11:31 AM
Oh no, sorry!!!:sob: I didn't want that...
I'm going to edit the spoiler tags and write the season above it, so that won't happen to other ppl as well.

About Dawn: How far have you watched season 5? I know what Dawn's role in the story is, and it is an interesting idea, but well... it was a bit confusing that she was suddenly there. And yeah, Buffy acts very childish and immature in a lot of situations... personnaly I liked her less and less with every season.

About Oz and Co: Yeah, I think those chars left the series at the right moment. The whole Angel-Desaster was getting a bit boring and frustrating, and I appreciated his decision to go to LA. btw did you ever watch his own series? Cordelia joined them in season two or so, I think, and I like how Cordy developes there. She's way more interesting than Buffy, (lol who would've imagined that?)

Jenny Calender's death was swift and clean *g*, and the abruptness (uhm... does that word exist?...) was adding a lot to the drama. I liked that, but well... maybe that's because I really like Angelus ;P. Wished he would've lost his soul for a bit longer ...

As for Faith: I love her. And without wanting to spoil too much again: You're going to see her again, so look forward to later seasons!

You're welcome DanyDaray. I hope you like it. My favourite song is the duet with Giles and Tara

just saw the "innocent" and "surprise" episodes yesterday (the beginning of Angeleus)
Actually I'm glad Jenny Calendar died.. because the actress wasn't that good... >_< I was just watching her exchange between her and her gypsy uncle... and it sounded so stale (perhaps it's the lines because she's fairly good flirting with giles)

Dawn: well.. if you finished the season then you'll know :) I didn't think Buffy seemed childish with Dawn.. in fact I was annoyed with Dawn's character (she seems so selfish). She redeemed herself at that season's finale..

Oh I love watching Angel. it was hard to catch it here (since I don't have WB). ... I actually started liking it better than watching Buffy... It's fairly different. I especially liked how they developed good demons and bad demons... the good ones are funny :P I heard the ending didn't do the show justice. Cordy was awesome here. I didn't find her too interesting in Buffy but she shone out in Angel.

Ah, I remember! Yeah, she was kinda cool. Agreed, a few eps more would've been nice. She was quite strong, so there would've been some more good fights.

Which leads me to another question: Is there a fight (I know, there were hundreds lol) that you liked best?

I personally always loved to see Buffy fight against Faith. My fav has to be the one at her place where Buffy stabbed her and she ended up in a koma. That was kinda sad, but the action was great!
And I love to see Angelus (NOT Angel ;P) in action, and to see Spike kick ass (unfortunately he kept losing against Buffy... *g*)...

I bought the boxset of the series. It's interesting watching it the second time around.. some episodes have commentary and it's interesting to learn the difference between the writer's intention and what came out...

Oh i just rewatched the "zeppo" episode this morning (the one where xander was trying to be "cool" and ended up hanging around with a bunch of dead guys S3). It was so funny.. it's almost like they were poking fun of the soap opera atmosphere of Buffy. Xander scenes - illustrates how he's a screw up (comedy) and everyone else was filled with drama. I recently watched an ep out of season one again, it was on tv. Gave me quite some reasons to laugh my ass off: First: since they were on tv they were in german - rofl. I haven't watched dubbed Buffy eps in a very very very... long time and it was hilarious. Not that the voices are too bad, but it was just strange xD.
And then: Wow, Buffy was terrible in season 1! Hilarious!!! xD
And it was fascinating to be reminded how everything started. Not only had the series itself a long way to go before they developed their style and the courage to be more than just another random teenie show, but also Buffy. Way to go, little Slayer.... If she had known back then what awaited her through the following seven years... *gg*
After seeing her in season 6 and 7 (don't worry, Kami, I won't say more than this ;) ) and now seeing her in season 1 again I gotta say that I liked her best in seasons 2 to 4.
But no. Don't really like Buffy. She has her moments, but... no. xD The others are far more interesting ;)

I watched part of an episode dubbed in French, and it was absolutely halarious thinking of Xander speaking in French... Anyways, it was a good laugh. But I can't understand French... ^^ Yeah.

Same here, love the musical episode xD My favorite song got to be "Rest in Peace", because I love James Marsters voice (anybody know his band "Ghost of the Robot"?) and it's the only rock song - and since I'm a metalhead....well... xD

Maucho, your missing post might be in the who's your fav buffy character thread xD

I liked when Angel made appearances on buffy did you guys like that?

DanyDaray

lol, brother ;)

And yeah, I liked it ^^ Angel is cool, but the love tragedy between him and Buff started to get on my nerves at some point. His later appearances were better, and I liked the tension between him and Buffy.

But... I have to say, I like Angelus way better than Angel... xD I was always hoping that he'd lose his soul again ;P

Nice, Dany. Angel did get boring at points, but Angelus had style. ^^

I really loved the show- so many varied and interesting characters and cool backstories(particuarly with all the spike and angel flashbacks) some of the coolest villains ever to grace TV screens and some awesome creature effects for television. Loved the way Whedon quite often turned things on their head with stand out episodes like "The Wish" and "Hush".....really miss the show but hey at least it`s out on DVD.

I've seen them all. I have to admit i also went through something you could say was an obsession with Buffy the vampire slayer. My favorite character would have to be Buffy of course but my second would be Spike.

I finished season 5, and it was by far the most amazing season finale yet. It was so sad, and so beautiful, and I loved every minute of it. (Especially how Tara got her mind back. ) ^^

Does anybody else not like how they pronounce Tara. They say it like Tera, when I think the pronunciation Tara sounds much better.

leni

i think "taera" is just the result of the american accent. i always say it "tahra" and you'll notice Giles sorta does too

Maybe I don't like American accents then. But I'm American so that could be a problem. I always say it Tahra (as you put it) too, because I think it sounds better. I know someone who lives in Australia whose name is Tara pronounced Tahra too. But I'm kinda rambling at this point. ^^

Ah, when I was a kid I used to be so into monsters, aliens and horror genres in general. Buffy was one of my favorite shows, I like it's depiction of vampires more than any other TV show or movie. I haven't watched the newer seasons but I have seen most if not all of its predecessors. I'd say my favorite character is The Master, the head vamp from season one and Angel comes a close 2nd. I gotta admit though, the music on this show plays with the emotions like a harp. Those sad scenes with the music, I swear I almost shed a tear once... just almost.

It's a shame it's not on TV anymore. It's much better than most of the crap they have right now.

Here's a question: Would people classify this show as targeted towards teenage girls? Is it unusual for adults or guys to like it? Is it a, for lack of a better term, chic-flick show?

Hey, I think I've heard of that tv series... Maybe I just was 13 back then, in Indonesia that show aired on 11pm, so I should cheat on my mom when I want to watch them, funny ehh... And I just watch 'em partially, maybe some of first season, and half oh the second because it suddenly stopped. If anyone have them I really appreciate it when they send it to me... Makes me remember how cute Sarah Michelle Gellar back then, and the one who played angel too, I think he was David Boreanas or something...?

06-19-2008, 12:56 PM
lol,

hmmmm, i guess it has more of a female fan-base, but it's certainly not unusual for men to enjoy watching buffy...

the question is: Do they watch because of the gripping storylines, or all the girl-girl action? :P

Hey, don't be to harsh... It's not that I'm a freak fans of Buffy (I'm a man btw), I'm just a fan of angel and friends (or leagues) if I could say...

Watched it once and never watched it again. soooooo boring. How can you stand that show?

DanyDaray
06-19-2008, 10:35 PM
lol, well that may be the problem :P It gets more intense and interesting if you watch more than just one random episode. ;)
There are very few eps that were boring in my opinion, but probably more if you don't know the characters and the storyline...
Especially later seasons have a very tight plot, and the character developement is awesome (except that of Buffy, imo... she disappointed me in the end...)

But there isn't that much. (Believe me, I wish there was more...)

And I think people could easily find the show boring if they just watched one random episode. I used to do that and not understand a thing, plus I was 10 and too young for it. It's one of those shows that you really have to watch it dedicatedly to understand anything.

And the character development is good. Even Buffy has a bit, and Willow is having way too much at the moment. (I'm in the middle of season 6).

yeah, I wished there was more girl-girl action, too :P

and season six... XD well, it's Willow's season ^^ and her developement... well... let's just say: there is even more developement to come.
Be prepared for a very tight and intense season finale.

I liked that season very much, though at first I wasn't sure where it would lead - in the end I was stunned. *would love to babble on but bites her tongue* :P

Hey, where do you get season 6 from? Is there a link to download the full episodes somewhere? Can you pointed me in the right direction please..., I just want to have the same experience watching 'em full... And I prefer megaupload than rapidshare, since I have my own premium membership! Can you share the knowledge pleaseee...

I don't have links to a site, sorry... try raidrush (http://www.raidrush.org/) or megadownload.net (http://www.megadownload.net/) to search for episodes on the net. But buffy eps tend to vanish from the net very quickly, because they're really protecting their copyrights ... maybe you have more luck with torrents, but don't know about that, I never use torrents.... :)

rofl
I don't have dl links, sorry :P And I'd recommend you watch the whole series, because it is really great and it shouldn't be reduced to the girl/girl scenes :P

The first hints are showed in season three, in the eps with vampire Willow. One of my fav scenes is the dialogue between Angel, Buffy and Willow.
Evil Willow is in the cage in the library, and good Willow is talking to Buffy about her evil twin:
Willow (looking at her caged twin):"...and I think I'm kinda gay..."
Buffy (trying to calm Willow): "Don't worry, a vampire's personality has nothing to with the person he has once been."
Angel (turns around to face the two): "Well, actually..."
Willow looks at him, horrified, Buffy glares at him. He turns away again: "...good point..."
I was lmao!

But the real girl/girl action starts during season 4 when Tara shows up and she and Willow fall in love. They take their time, but when they finally find the courage to admit their feelings it's very sweet and very sexy. ;)
