I was wondering if anyone knows of a great anime which fits my criteria. I'm looking for something dark and harrowing with a deep story. If it has some supernatural element then that would be good, maybe vampires. I'd prefer it to be a fairly short series if possible. Also I'd prefer it if it was set in older times, though it's not essential. I don't mind if it's hentai as long as it has a great story, also I like stories with a theme of family betrayal. If anyone has played the game 'Nocturnal Illusions' then this is similar to the kind of thing I'm looking for, though the hentai isn't necessary. If anyone can recommend a good anime that fits all those criteria I will be greatly impressed, but just get as close to it as you can. Thanks!

Maybe the Blood the last vampire movie, or Hellsing......
Trinity Blood would probably work as well.

I second that... except that I don't find the hayate anime fun after reading the manga, which, in my opinion, is superior

hmmmm *writes down all names for future downloads*
I would also suggest hellsing and trinity blood, altho I found trinity blood's story line a little lacking for the first few episodes

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys! I'll probably check out Gungrave because I was told it had a very deep storyline and that is primarily what I'm looking for. If I have time then I might look at Hellsing too. I've already seen Elfen Lied (to the guy who suggested it) I thought it was a great anime but I didn't really like any of the characters apart from Lucy. Also I watched the dubbed version and some of the voice overs were just plain annoying. Anyway thanks again for the recommendations, I'll work through the list of animes as and when I have time to watch them but I'll start with Gungrave. I keep my fingers crossed for a great experience in entertainment ^.^

Count of Monte Cristo, quite a dark one and deep story.
The essence of this story is about betrayals and revenges.
One that I recommend if you don't mind the 'unique' drawing style...
