Like the thread suggests this is a thread for a discussion between Sub fans and Dub fans ^^
I've made this thread since, lately, people have been talking and DEBATING about this subject in the Anti-Dub Federation FC which is not an adequate place for such DEBATES....
Anyway I would love to see ppl posting here and stating their opinions :)
Remember ---- NO FLAMING ! we are all friends here :)
edit: since this is an OPEN debate, all voices have been made public ^^

I like both, I personally prefer subs but respect dubs and why they exist.
Wouldnt it be sad if someone couldnt watch anime because they couldn't read well or had a disability that meant they couldn't read at all?
I know many people who have difficulty reading and watching the anime due to disability or just because they cant connect to the anime if they have to do both.
Some people dont understand some of the japanese jokes so adapting it to make sense to western culture makes sense...
When people say its japanese anime and should stay japanese its like saying american cartoons are american and should stay english. Imagine all the countries who dont speak english who wouldnt be able to watch these cartoons if that happened.
Dubbing makes anime accessible to everyone. People who like subs get their subs and people who cant watch them or simply prefer dubs get their dubs. Dubbing dsnt hinder subs and dsnt take your enjoyment away from subs don't wish them away because they are here for the people who want and need them.
Many people were introduced to anime through dubs so they serve a purpose that way too. Hayao Miyazaki is a big fan of disney which influenced him with studio ghibili films he supports the dubbing process and likes watching his films in dub after.
Im sorry I ranted but I have worked with special needs people who love anime and couldnt watch it if dubs didnt exist. There are different severity levels of dyslexia ect.. so some of these people cant read at all

I didnt know whether to post on here because I am new and I dont want people to dislike me... but....
As much as I hate dubs and have the right to that, I still dont want them to not be here. I agree with what aura-chan said with the dubs being important. my little sister can not read due to dsylexia and dsypraxia (cnt spell)
I would never watch dubs as I like subs way to much

those are good arguments... although i would like to see a dub that has been done with some passion, or something, like FMA... when they start making all dub like that i will gladly accept it :)

do not be afraid to state your opinion... if some1 dislikes you solely because of that then that person is not worth your time ^^

Yeah... I do wish that they made better dubs so that they werent hated lol. I very very rarely watch dubs because I personally cant stand them. But ill watch them if someone requests it or needs to watch a dub.
I appologise for causing trouble in your anti fan club I have had people who have had to watch dubs be bullied by people who are anti dub... it gets me down alittle. everyone has a right to their own opinion I just wish most people could say ok I hate dubs but I understand why they are necessary that would make me happy lol

I'm glad someone else likes the dub quality of FMA, I watched several commentary's on the series and they did put a lot of effort into the voice acting. The producer was a big fan and went the extra distance to make it turn out well. I was shocked to find out that many dubbed shows anime and other alike they don't even use scripts when they do the dubs. So I can see why some series don't turn out well.
I prefer dubbs when I can, I have noticed that regardless of the series depending on how you watch it first you associate the voices with the actors and it is hard to try to watch it in the other format. Also I know a lot of people talk about how dialoge is left out when they do dubbs and I have noticed this time to time but I have also noticed like aura chan mentioned that they are able to use the native language slang more effectively, jokes are more appropriate and they can replace words to make them more suitable. When I can I try to watch a dubbed version with the original subs and there are occasionally some differences but not enough to where I would make the claim that they are taking away from the authenticity of the series. Either way I want there to be as many fans of anime as possible so they will continue to make more of it.

I voted 4 subbs...
...cause Japaneses done a great job putting right voice actors and also their Japanese speaking is making anime unique and I'm quick reader at subbs , so I guess , I have no problem with that (I hate watching animes with my bro cause he's slow reader and pauses animes all of the time) anyway their language is some what close to my mother land's , especially their "chun" spoken as "jan" in mine.
but that can't means I hate dubbs , they are great too, but depends on what voice actors they are choosing, if it's good then fine but when if voice actors are lame and cold, I prefer subbs !

I understand much better with dubs. With subtitle, you miss certain subtle hint or image that's a part of the plot because you are trying to read what the character is saying. Also I'm rather a slow reader.
And there's another reason I like dub better personally.

I never had a problem with either. I read pretty fast so subs are fine..dubs are also welcome.. But you know, even if some dubs are poor quality you wouldn't notice it unless you find it in the original version. I personally voted for dubs coz they're also good for learning another language, i am good at english because as a child i was left to watch the morning cartoons everyday, and back in those days the dubs were only in english, so that's how i learned the dialect..

i don't really have a problem if it is subs or dubs... as long as i can understand the flow of the story. its ok.. but i would always refer original than a recreated one. just to keep to moral of the original story line alivel...:beautifu2:

I just read back to the anti dub fc and from what aura-chan said here and there I dont think she was trying to cause an argument or make people like dubs I think she was trying show people who hate dubs that yea they can hate them but don't say they shouldn't exist. I think she wanted people to realise their importance.
shes said she dsnt like to watch dubs herself
I didnt wanna post this in the fc so I didnt cause trouble but I wanted to defend aura-chan she seems quite caring to all sides

personally i would prefer subs since it's orgininal and sometimes the voice actors for the dubs aren't really that good, i c a few animes in dub, but only barely

A few months ago I went through a phase where I wanted to start watching Sailor Moon again. I had not seen Sailor Moon since I was 11 years ago - so 10 years ago. My fond memories of Sailor Moon were with english dubs - so when I went looking for it online I tried my hardest to find the english dubbed version. The memories were too precious for me. Then when I found out that Sailor Stars was never released into an english dub - I had my doubts - considering the only Sailor Moon I had ever known was presented to me in english. So I watch Sailor Stars with the japanese audio / english subs - and I was just as happy with the story. My only problem lied with certain names i.e Serena in English, Usagi in Japanese.. etc.. once I got through some of these differences I still enjoyed the show.
Same with InuYasha. I have only ever seen it with english Dubs - and the characters voices are stuck firmly in my head - and now I have heard they are finishing off that particular anime - and I think I am going to wait until the english dubb is created. Just to follow through with the continuity for myself. Perhaps in the future I will try watching this series in it's original audio. Though now I am torn - because I started watching Bleach in english, but have since started watching in subs - and I love both formats. There are some character voices in english which I think sound better, and some in japanese which sound better - so it's on equal paring with me.
I will pretty much only seek out dubs if it was a series I had seen on aussie TV for the first time. Now I am just finding new series online and am watching it with subs - not trying to look for english dubs at all.
Anyway - that's just my contribution to the topic :)
