So do you believe you make your own decisions or that you are following a pre destined path that has been laid out for you.

I frankly prefer to think that I am in control of my actions and therefore my future, but it is interesting to think that maybe regardless of what decisions I make the end result will be the same.

damnit.. this was supposed to have a poll. oh well

there is ofc a destiny < my point of view ofc
but the point is we r the ones who shape it
the deeds we do for instance have a strong impact on it :P
also it may b the case that it somethin' which is inevitable is termed as destiny by us
exception(s) to this include god-gifted peeps ..xD

Free will, there is nothing to set my destiny. If I want to be good, i will go on and do good deeds if I want to be bad then i will go do bad deeds. You control your life because you can make your own decisions and morph yourself into the person you want to be.

but let's consider parallel universes for a minute.. If we consider that there are an infinite number of parallel universes each with the same starting point but converging at all different paths than the people we are right now can only take one route, while every other possible decision we could make will be done so in another universe.

That reminds me of a Jet Li movie. There are a lot of theories of parallel universes but I have yet to see any hard evidence. I mean there could be some but with our technology now I will not take the leap and say yes.

The only thing we have is the mathematical equations that say that exists. As for the topic at hand, I find that we are bound by one simple thing and that's causality. We do have free will but at the same time we must go with what we're given. The effect from one person's choice will cause our choice to differ.

freewill...
i don't really believe in the so called destiny or fate...
coz if there such thing as destiny, then why the heck god give us freewill..
destiny is applied to when it comes to death, all of us going to die at one point or another
but whether what kind of existence we have is up to what people create.
that's where freewill enter....

I would like to belive in free will but alot has happened in my life to suggest that some things are predefined. o.o
While i am in no way saying this is anything more then coincidence, my brother had a tragic accident. He was on the verge of death. Looking back at it now. It is hard not to say something didn't play a part in his survival, bye the sheer number of factors that led to him pulling through. Maybe its just me but feel that there could be a factor that may guide us. Be it our own Pre conceived ideas that manifest itself in a set path, or an actual set of forces. but that's my ideas.

Beyond causality, I believe we have a certain amount of free will. I can't turn into a fish and lay my eggs in a river, but I can change my life around in an instant. I don't have a set destiny, but I can't reverse time and redo my actions. It's like I'm on a river that flows into an infinite number of streams. I can go in any of those directions, but I can' fight the flow of the river.

Satou is right...although, I would add that destiny is also when we are born, and the time when we die.

lol here's the way it really goes

our choices are free will but where we end up from the choices we made are destine

make sense right? :P

but there's so many things taht can happen from the choices we made til prediction is sort of impossible p.p

I donīt believe in such things as destiny. Only the free will exists.

Free Will. We are alive simply because the Earth's conditions are optimal and mom and dad decided to have a one-night stand. Why would we be special enough to have a destiny?

I firmly believe that I am in control of my own actions. If I don't get up and go look for a job, I doubt someone is going to come to me and offer me a job ;) There seems to be alot of coincidences and alot of luck in this world - and sometimes it might appear to be that there is something laid out before you, but for the most part I think that we all live guided on our actions and the consequences based upon them *shrug* I dont think that there is something that predefines every single action we make - otherwise, well life would really be a waste if it was that way :P Why even bother to do anything if what you're 'planned' to do something you won't like?

my opinion that i'm following a pre destined path that has been laid out for me.
but in the same time there're some things that i've to select about my future
i mean like when you're traveling from a place to another you can't choose if
if you'll reach it save or you'll die , that's what i meant .
in that time you can't decide if u 'll live or ......

so I'm hearing a lot of people talk about having free will and having a destiny.. Now since religion has come up so much lately i'm going to bring part of it in here. This refers the pentecostal part of Christianity, and many others also. So if God exists, and he knows every thing we are ever going to do, doesn't that mean our lives are completely pre-ordained? Since our lives have already been mapped out we don't actually have free will do we? if he creates us knowing we are going to die at the age of 55 or something and we can't do anything about it doesn't that negate the concept of free will?

also another point to consider is the infinite parallel universe theory, if more than one universe exists but they all spawned off of a single point into infinite directions that would mean that regardless of what we do we can not alter the path we are on.

I for one kinda've believe this last theory, as much as I want to believe in free will, i think that things turn out the way they are meant to for us

I like that parallel universe theory there. it's weird thinking about other universes, but in a way comforting. at least to me. and that thing about God, it's good that you brought that up. I don't think, better yet, i refuse to accept that our lives are already set for us. i refuse to believe that because that would defeat the purpose our our already small lives.

Ok, this is my view:
You are in control of your future - you can change your attributes like knowledge, power, skills, etc. You can choose any road to take.
But there is a thing: people can't change. While you can make yourself better in any attribute, the core of yourself will never be changed. We get a core when we are born. It gives you thing like starting rato of good/evil, talents, amout of luck, etc

so if time travel ever becomes a reality how would that affect our free will or destiny? if you believe in destiny than time travel could have the ability to change that, unless you believe it was your destiny for someone from the future to affect the present.;. than i guess it still would be part of it

Well there's no point copying what he said. That's exactly what i had in mind. I make my own decisions , free will. It's up to me how i start and end. Be it either good or bad way.

As stated by Ami, posting in threads inactive for more than 21 days are considered grave digging.

If you wish to continue the conversation make a new thread. This thread was inactive for more than a month because no one was interested to post here, so carrying on will do no good. here is more info about your question conda --> http://www.animea.net/forums/f31/great-threads-closed-due-inactivity-25476/
