It's godly O.O
COD has a story line?
Oh, you mean that thing you can beat in 3 hours and then are left to play the online version? Which, to be truthful is the only reason why ANYONE buys COD.
MGS4 has online, but because the STORY was so involved, people didnt buy it to play online but rather to find out the ending of the Snake series.
In my opinion it is rather idiodic to compare these two games in terms of story, the winner is obvious. COD4 doesnt really try to keep a story does it? They also run out of ideas too quickly and its all generally the same, I dont believe playing story mode on COD requires much skill at all, especially when you get nuked 3 fucking times. Great the first time but, it lost its 'surprise' and 'wow' factor once half the planet should have technically been decimated.
MGS just has such an entwined story, so well played out and portrayed, so messed up and it even has a time line, a friggen TIME LINE. What other game can give you a movie length ending and you cry at the end because you know that is the end of your favourite hero.
Thats another thing, COD doesnt have 1 protagonist, 1 hero, you have several making it hard to get attached. Snake, on the other hand (and a lesser Raiden), you learn to grow on. Snakes 'Charm' is all you need to make a game awesome =P

ok ill agree with you cod4 dosn't have much of a storyline but im guessing you havent played modern warfare 2 because if you have you wouldn't think that it has an epic story and yeah its short but every time i play the campaign its just so epic that i have to play it again oh and one more thing it may not have 1 single protagonist but many instead i mean how could you forget about captain price or ghost or even soap mac tavish

Well, my opinion about this is biased, as i haven't played any of the Modern Warfare games, but, by comparing Metal Gear to all the other Call of Duty games that i have played and enjoyed, Metal Gear wins hands down. My reasonings are fairly simple.
Call of Duty is basically a game designed for multiplayer and shooting as many people as possible, much like Counterstrike is, so of course the storyline in them doesn't need to be great. It's a game where you sit down and shoot people to advance. Metal Gear, on the other hand, is a game that focuses on storyline and killing as little as possible. It's hard to compare the two over something like the storyline if the games are so dissimilar in gameplay style.
Plus, Any game that has a Bad Guy who Mocks you about the games you have saved on the memory card is considered an Epic, Undefeatable Win in my books

LOL xDDDD
ok i agree. this is a really one sided matching up. and i think it should compare more then just story,
OVERALL. MGS wins on story. It has characters, Plot, and length. and though trying to read all the details can be as confusing as hell. the story is solid and is on par with an Oscar movie,
Now this isn't to say COD isn't epic :O
The story i have to say is fantastic, though developing. and it does have 1 protagonist XD soap Mactovitch xD MW is only the second game of the modern warfare series that has separated itself out from the ww2 era that shares its name. xD ths story line is superb. but short and i think will continue to develop... will it ever reach MGS... No. but ya cant say its got nothing XD
as far as game play and multilayer though... COD wins for me ^^
guess im just a sucker for the ac130 :D
