Which one is better graphics-wise? I heard they have equivalent CPUs which both PS2 and PSP running at around 300 Mhz. In first generation games, PSP's CPU was locked not to run at full potential? If PSP resolutions were blown up to PS2's size, would they look identical or even better? Worse?

PS2 > PSP. A PSP is not really a "form-factor" PS2. Game developers have yet to grasp this. The PS2 has more power than a PSP.

Yeah graphics wise a PS2 is still superior.... I have one they are not all their cracked up to be.... I got mine when it first came out, I feel it was just a waste of 250 bucks.

I realized that when I actually had time to play my psp I could just play PS2. So unless you are a person who is never home I would just stick with the PS2. In my opinion you should get you an Xbox360 :em001: they are well worth the money, especially if you get xbox live.

I'm thinking about buying a PSP since I have to travel in the train each day >_< it's so boring just sitting there for an hour...

PSP is a pretty cool handheld since there are firmware hacks it's easy to get games etc. :)

If you want to keep your homebrew stuff, just make sure to never update the firmware!

@scoutz: Get a DS. Trust me. 98% of people that bought a PSP feel like it's a gimmick crap waste of money. The other 2% KNOW this and just use it for hack-testing. XD.

Seriously, you can hack the DS even more easily, and it has much better functionality. Youtube has all the answers. XD

Besides, the PSP needs to die. I hate them all for releasing some of my favourite franchises on the PSP and crapping them up. MGS: Portable Ops is one that especially comes to mind. >_>...There's also Ratchet and Clank, and Daxter. >_>

@monz: PS3 > Wii > Xbox360. No offense. XD

@kutae: PS3 > Xbox360 :em0128: the online features for PS3 blow, they dont compare to xbox live. That is one of the main draws of the 360 is all of the online features, being able to play with your friends, great downloads, and free demos as well, besides I like the games better anyways

well i would have to say PS2 since the PSP is useless also PS2 has better games and i don't really like hand-held systems-But i do have a PS3 although there aren't that many great games out MGS4 and FF13 coming out so it will help the PS3 sales/reputation i only have Warhawk and Armored Core 4 for it though

There is more to a game system than Xbox Live. Yes, Live is great, but the PS3 beats it in almost every other category. I only go online with my game systems to play other people (which I can do for free on my PS2). I have a computer to download, stream movies and audio, and play demos. Plus, can you help to save humanity with an Xbox 360?

Exactly. While I might not have any good games for my PS3 yet, I run it all day almost every day doing medical research for the betterment of the world we live in. =p

And yeah, I agree with you that the PS3 sucks ass now for gaming (only shooters for those who like 'em, and for people like me, we've got Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion so far, ... Which I'm hopefully getting soon. >_>) and the Xbox360 has far better games out now, but the PS3 will eventually dominate the market. The same thing happened with the PS2 vs Xbox vs Gamecube. This is just history repeating itself. Lol.

I have two servers right now that are only running Folding@Home (2 different Dual Core Intel 3060 servers with 2 GB of RAM, among other things). I also use my laptop to run Folding@Home sometimes if I have nothing else to do. No joke man, science needs all the help it can get.

Lol...I knew about it already, since you said you were planning a website or something, and until you use the servers they'll be running F@H constantly. =p...You said it to scoutz in some thread, discussing Linux and a bunch of security, firewall crap, etc...which I have no clue about. >_<. XD

I wouldn't say they were bad. The Gizmondo was bad. The PS2 is just...outdated.

GenesisX

We can't necessarily say PS2 is bad. It's graphics are still fine, to me anyways. I was still 1 at the time, but reading back in the 'History books' xD, how was the PS1 to you guys when it first came out? It was ownage, and people boasted about it like how people boasted about ps3's graphics, or wii's nunchuk game play!

What is the PS1 now? Its graphics are a JOKE. Try using ATI Rage again, XD

But the quantity (& quality) of games was what defined both previous PS's... PS1 had all the Squaresoft stuff (Final Fantasy et al.) after Square told Nintendo to go screw itself. Or was that Namco? I forget. PS1 had lots of games, and games remembered to be fantastic for that time -- Xenogears, Ridge Racer, Wipeout 2097, FF7 (though not a PS exclusive).

And I still play on PS2's, simply because I've not found a killer app to get the PS3 yet. Plus, I get to play all the RPG's I want on PS2 -- they're not gfx intensive, and I can live with loading times. C'mon, even with Xbox 360 launching, PS2 was still holding up pretty well -- God of War anyone?

well i had some spare money so i went out and got a psp along with metal gear acid, metal gear portable ops, tales of eternia, loco roco and lumines 2 and i have to say all of these games just rock! i love being able to wip out my psp at the bus stop and recruit a few goons for my army in metal gear portable ops and maybe do a few missions all with in a few minutes! or chill to the great tunes in lumines while i bust out some puzzle action when i have a few spare mins :P

IMO if you have the money for a psp they are quite good BUT there are alot of rubbish games out there that make the system look like crap!

GenesisX

I'm actually still loving my PS2!!! I bet you if you Had a component cable and a 40" HDTV, and attached your PS2 to it, the graphics portrayed would kill YOU (if you were running God of War at pscan). I doubt getting a 60" HDTV will make your life better though, especially on the weak PS2.

The PSP has slightly worse Graphics, because the UMD's Graphics are set at a lower frequency, because UMD's hold less space than a DVD, Stopping the developers from concentrating only on making it look good. If they did, the game would be really short and crap.

If you want the best Ultimate Gameplay Experience, and have around $7,000, Buy a surround sound, A Full Definition TV and a Playstation3. Don't forget to buy some PS3 games, because the PS2 Game software on the PS3 is realy glitchy.

I'd say the PS2 is better graphically and has a wider range of games, but the PSP can be used for a lot of things AND it's portable.

Got a PS2, but it already clouded with dust since it haven't been turn on for atleast 3+ months:em04:. Reason is not many new games (especially those that suite my taste) for it currently since PS3 is already out now.

Anyhow, my vote still goes for PS2 if it between PS2 vs PSP

I personally think its kinda stupid to compare the both systems, i mean the psp and ps2 are both ( SONY ) company entertainment, PS2 is a home held gaming console while the psp is a portable gaming console that is perfect for travellers and other issues, Sony company created both systems for a specific reason, nor which one is better!

PS2 obviously...Ten times better than the PSP...may not be portable but has a good line up of games and is a solid system...

But don't get me wrong I like the PSP...it's just nothing compared to it's older brother XD.

I have ps2 and psp. i prefer psp, cuz one you can play games on it, second if you're doing a job you can carry it with you. While you're working you can watch movies, listen to music, and of course play games. on the other hand, ps2 has a lot of games on it, but they are old now. Today we're just talking about ps3 and psp. We hardly talk abt ps2 now.

the psp may have less ram and such but for example final fantasy crisis core great graphics
you guys are bad mouthing it when your not even thinking

the psp disc hold 2 gigs
the ps2 hold up to 4 or more theres more room for graphics and such
the psp does more then the ps2
also if its a psp with sonys firmware ill say i agree they suck but if you have hacked it just about the best system there is

think about it theres a reason behind the graphics bing not as good but honestly i think there pretty eqaul

hhhh...PS2 vs PSP?Come on,is this a trick question?

First of all, You're comparing a handheld with a screen-based.Very different if you ask me.The ps2 is meant for the home. It's got more games, better parts....simply outbeats PSP in every aspect. And than there's the PSP-the so-called portable ps2.

It has some of the ps2 capabilities, some games run on it....but it's portable.

it depends on what do you need.I got a ps2 and i'm getting a DS-a lot better than the PSP.

this is ridiculous :/

how can u compare a handheld device to a non-handheld device :/

they are too many differences between them

1. PS2 connect to a tv = bigger screen, better viewing unless u have a tv of a small size but still it won't be as small as a PSP screen
a. PSP doesn't connect a display device but the small screen kinda make viewing enjoyment less entertaining than the PS2 will

2. PS2 slim is light weight, u can carry it anywhere down fall is display device
a. PSP on the other as an integrated screen but is small

3. PS2 haves way much games
a. PSP haves not much games

4. PS2 can play CD's no mp3 though i tried it once and it fail
a. PSP can play mp3 and save msic on one of those memory cards :/

5. PS2 u have to buy games to play
a. PSP u can download games from the net and play

u can also download PS2 games and play them on the PS2 but there certain things u will have to do in order for it to work

anyway they both are good to have but PSP is more like u for u are at work or school and just simply get bored, not just work or school but i'm sure u get the point

I'll go with PS2 because for me, after a long stressful day a small screen gaming experience won't cut it

but both are good to have
