Speeding up FireFox [Archive]

Here’s something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages MUCH faster now!

...or you can speed up all of your internet connections with a simple registry patch (that I have posted here before).

The first post actually works. I did the exact same method prior to know this thread existed. Usually, Firefox takes like 1-3 minutes to load up, depending on what programs you had using up your CPU. But by doing that method in the first post speeds things up.

(Was that taken from Blackbay.org? That's where I found that information about this)

Anyways... it does help if you need to use firefox and can be bothered waiting for like 3 minutes so it can load up.

The values still seem to remain in the about:config of Firefox 3. I personally have not tested this, I use my registry patches instead.

There are some on the Internet who says this doesn't work. I used to use this, and it looks like it works. But I really want to see some tangible evidence that this works.

I've noticed that it loads images a whole lot faster. It loads things much faster in my opinion. I have now tangible proof, but I'm not lying when I say that I've seen a noticeable difference in loading times. I also used the patch provided, so it could be a mixture of the two.
