So, I actually found the first half of Valkyria Chronicles to be pretty good - I liked the greater emphasis on tactical warfare without too much fluff (although there was still fluff, but not enough to bother me).

Afterwards, it became pretty apparent that the "supernatural" element of the Valkyrians would be playing a significant role in the series - I know a lot of anime tend to fall back on a "oh man we found this awesome powerful thing and now we're going to go destroy the world with it" gimmick, and I saw this as a complete departure from the tactical elements that drew me to the series in the first place.

The second opening didn't help; almost all of it is dedicated to this element (which I derisively refer to as "glowing blue"), and at that point I seriously had to hesitate and wonder whether or not it's actually worth going on. It didn't help that the entire supernatural element seems to revolve around Alicia - a character who I never liked too much (she especially seems a bit silly when juxtaposed with an obviously more mature Welkin - maybe the silliness is her appeal, but it doesn't really work for me). I don't want the tactical side of the series to suddenly become completely overshadowed by this giant battle between two or three characters who have been endowed with "uber powers."

So given that, should I keep watching? Is my prediction (that the tactical element of the series becomes completely subordinated by this "glowing blue" stuff) true?
