Prayer For Atheists

So something i've been thinking of lately, not entirely sure where to go with my thoughts on this but lets see how it works.

For me, I hadn't even really noticed i was doing this. I've been an atheist for quite some time now, for the longest time I thought I may just be agnostic but I think I was only lying to myself. Here is where it gets confusing for me though.

I find myself praying for faith, not to any particular entity and not for faith in any particular religion, but just pretty much praying to myself that I will find faith in something good. Now I don't know what this would be, maybe it's not prayer at all, maybe it's just me talking to myself. So does this mean I do have some faith? and that I am not an atheist?

I'm sure many people, in times of despair find themselves praying to God or whoever you choose. And sure I don't see anything wrong with this really. But does that mean they are not atheists but rather believers who just don't want to admit they believe?

I think having faith would be a good thing, it's not likely to cause any harm to anyone unless it becomes fanatical.

I just can't figure out if I am still an atheist or if I am once again lying to myself. To quote X-files fox mulder, "I want to believe"

I had to throw that last bit in there, it is who I am after all.

This thread is for those who have dstv and would like to tell us whats cool about dstv and what sucks about it and why?

The cool thing I like about dstv is that I got the pvr decoder and it stops live television and you can rewind and record programs that you gonna miss or want to watch later...

The thing that sucks on dstv is that is has too much junk channels and more annoying is that they repeat movies and stuff over and over again...

okay, this is a small thing on mankind. the point of it is that if you had the power to fix any *one* human characteristic, which one would you change? would it be greed, or maybe narcissim? or would you just like to make humans live forever, or clense the world? please say why would you do what you would, no one liners. thanks.

So.. I think I saw something similar, but couldn't find it. Anyways:

You go to the doctor, and he tells you that you have 24 hours to live, and then BAM! your dead.. So what do you do?

For me, I have an epic day planned out, mostly it would be sitting in a dark locked room, and get this! Watching the Full Metal Alchemist series all the way through, and ending the day watching the MOVIE!! oh yea, do I know how to live or what. Really though, that would be what i'd likely do, maybe i'd set up several tvs and watch several series at the same time.

So what would be your grandiose plans?

Why the Chat Box was removed

We've been inundated with questions and complaints about the CB as well as demands to know who is responsible for it's removal. So we think the best way to explain this situation is to explain the history of the chat box itself.

This is not a personal statement it is a statement from the Animea staff

(If you are not bothered reading a long post go to the last half of the thread the part with the bold text but I suggest you read the whole statment in order to fully undersatnd the situation and why this action has been taken)

Initially Animea did not have a Chat Box it had a shout box which was a small panel used to post the odd remark here and there occasionally there would be conversations but the majority of socializing was done in the forums either in the form of chat in the spam games or proper discussion in the threads, yes people used to put effort into the topics even going to the trouble of replying to each others posts to have a more detailed discussion rather than posting one line and coming back to post another line again in a couple of days :o

In 2008 there was an increase in the level of spam caused by an influx of Hyperactive users who's only concern was getting a massive post count so they started making pointless posts barely related to the topics in the normal forums rubbishing the threads with posts like

---Quote---
Y: Yes this is a very interesting topic
Hey X did you see the game last night

X: Indeed it is an interesting topic I am very interested in it
Yes Y it was really good
---End Quote---
In short they moved the chat out of the spam forum and into the normal forums to boost their post counts but not only that the spam section got ruined because nobody was playing the games any more the games threads were filling up with page after page of chat (a problem that persists today in certain threads) This resulted in a lot of complaints from regular posters and spam thread users who preferred to play games rather than seeing conversations spread out across all the threads with no participation in any of the games.

The best way to remedy the problem was to give people a place to chat so the shout box became the chat box and the pseudo posters were told to bring their chatting there. And it worked the forums stayed clear of spam and people conversed in the chat box. Unfortunately around mid 2008 there was an influx of annoying kids who forgot to leave their spam in the spam section and brought it with them to the Chat box. Suddenly we were looking at excessive amounts of smilies and stupid conversations which made no sense and silly role plays involving robbing cookies and turning into foxes.

The chat box had no rules aside from the mandatory don't flame people, because before then there was never any problem involving excessive amounts of spam. The attitude towards these people was ignore them they will get bored and move off and they did but unfortunately the damage was done. By that stage new members arrived and witnessed the behaviour in the CB and accepted it as the norm so the trend continued with the spam growing worse and worse.

Efforts were made to curtail the trend by adding more rules but by that stage it was like a losing race new problems crept up making it hard to define a set of rules this was further hampered by people not bothering to read or just ignoring the rules altogether and the fact that the posts in the CB don't stick around for a long time so unless a mod witnessed them or they were reported there wasn't a chance to take action. Mods did hand out warnings mutings and bans when ever they witnessed a situation arise that called for action to be taken but, no heed was taken the behaviour continued

*Everything came to a head in the last few months because the Chat Box started to have a negative effect on the forum*. We had a serious bullying case that caused members to leave. The bully, EPDJ had been careful enough to carry out his actions when no mods were present and had it not been reported he may not have been dealt with. There was a massive increase of pure spam being posted, some users were talking to themselves having conversations consisting of nothing but smilies, yaoi pictures and just being annoying in general. Flirting, also became more rampant leading to fights over girls that people didn't even know in real life and the RPs became no longer concerned with stealing cookies and more concerned with stealing girls from other players in order to have sex with them. This flirting was spilling over into other sections of the forum and as this is not an adult dating site it was decided that this along with all the other issues needed to be sorted and the chat box needed to be cleaned up or removed.

New rules were drawn up so where before a mod could only politely suggest that a user not do something and be told "I'm not doing anything wrong it's not against the rules" Mods now had the power to take definitive action but they were faced with an attitude that said "well we didn't listen to you before why should we do it now" the use of muting and bans greatly reduced the smilies conversations and got rid of the yaoi pictures, but sex RPs persisted, leading to the incident that caused the Chat Boxes removal.

Calamityangel and Yoko were caught playing one of the before mentioned rps and instructed to stop leading to protests from two of the members along the lines of "You cant stop us from spamming it's the only reason we come here" "it is too much effort to go to the spam section make posts and refresh the page" "This is an abuse of your power" "If the chat box goes I go it's the only reason I'm here" Despite Myself and Uekipheonix and Skysongfan taking a half hour to explain the situation regarding the risk of the CB being removed the warning wasn't heeded a day later another RP featuring Yoko and Calamityangel started up again and before it could be stopped Scoutz saw not only the RP but a reply given to the on lookers who commented that not everyone in the forum wanted to see them sexing it up on the front page "only guys feel that way cause they are how too say are losers who cant talk to girls about that stuff with out something growing in their pants" It was then that Scoutz decided that the CB needed to go on Hiatus.

So who is responsible for this? Well the simple answer is that we all are. Many of you are saying that it was the actions of those doing the RP that was the problem and that they should suffer not the whole forum. Yes and no this incident was just the straw that broke the camels back the there have been similar goings on in the chat box that we are aware of and and many more we are unaware of.

This spam culture has become engrained in the chat box and it is everyone's fault that it has become so. Staff were too slow to recognise the potential for a problem occurring when the first spammers brought stupid behaviour to the Chat box and the community either joined in pushed the boundaries back further or just ignored the problem and didn't speak out about it. The chat box needs to be given time to cool off so the spam culture can be given a proper chance to get out of the forum's system. Then and only then can it be brought back. And next time it needs to be respected not abused in the manner as it was before

What Makes Us Stronger?

When I think about strenght, I do not think of physical power. To me real strenght comes from within, and i would like to find everyones views on this suject.

So for me, I had been convinced that isolation was necessary for one to be able to reach their full potential, and as I am typing this I realize how much it sounds like Saskue talking to Naruto, or many other parts from that series xD

So damn, how to make this sound original and not some rip-off of the tough guy scenario of anime... I am not talking about loss, or betrayal, although I do plan to discuss those aspects a little later. I mean intentionally choosing to deny one their most basic human desires. Such as the desire for human contact.

For me, it seemed things like attachments, and relationships did little but cloud the mind. And I still feel this to be the truth, but lately I've been having doubts. I don't mean one should hate everybody, and wallow in a form of self pity. That doesn't do anyone any good. But from my viewpoint it is hard to make logical decisions when emotions cloud your judgment. And for me, other people cloud my judgment quicker than anything else.

I dunno, seemed like a good idea for a thread when I thought of it, but now I wonder if it wasn't planted there by anime xD

Well I didn't know what to call this thread but I would like to discuss whether we have come to an age where people take technology for granted. I took the title from a youtube clip I found from the conan o' brian show.

Now I imagine age will have a big impact on how people view this subject, but I can't believe anyone could deny that people are just not impressed by the development of technology any more. Please watch this video and lets discuss ;)
