It is a definite option.
I currently have two externals, I bought my first one because I only have a 80g internal drive, my second because i filled my 1st rofl..

Currently I use one for computer files, backups and music. The second I use for anime, manga and videos.

I occasionally reformat my computer....about every 6 months, and having all my stuff backed up to externals is very convenient.
This also applies if you get a virus, or your computer crashes.

there so damn cheap go for more. you think a 160GB is a lot but believe me they fill up very easy. i have 250Gb drive and i wish i would have gotten at least 500, but i can't do about that now. If your on a budget then i guess its fine. i highly recommend shopping online at newegg or something similar to that. You usually find good deals often online and also there about 20%-40% cheaper than at a big box store.

Forgot to mention, my exts are 250g and 350g, both of which are almost full.
160g is too small, get at least a 300g, but if you have the money a 1T ext is now very affordable, like 300 dollars.

Yo, mena!

Yes external drives are very worth it. I have my personal setups to include two enclosed externals and a a hot swap swap case for internal drives. This setup gives me a total of 7 external drives, since I can even swap out my boot drives on my desktop.

I have my drives even more sepecialized thean t3ku. with one drive for A-L anime, one for M-Z. One for movies, one for live action TV, one music, one for backing up pics and programs. and one for my XP Pro install, and one for my Vista install.

While this setup is more than the average user needs it gives you an idea of can be done. And btw, this setup cost less than $500, not including the Windows installs. Although this can be attributted to the fact none of the drives are over 250gs, with the smallest being 80.

Consider you options carefully. What do want to store on the external drive? Will the purchased drive be future proof? Do keep your anime after you've watched it or delete it? Etc.

Since I tend to rip alot of movies and I keep the anime I download I set up a system that will be highly expandable until the day we will no longer use hard drives.

The best advice that can be said is to buy the largest one you can afford on your budget. I've yet to meet someone who said that they wish they had less space for storage!

Good luck and enjoy!

External hard drives a definitely worth the cost (and with each passing day it goes down), I've lost track of the number of external hard drives I have, yet they all seem to be always full.

These days space always seems to be an issue. In my opinion it is better to buy the space, so you don't have to resort to *gulp deleting content. Also they are perfect solutions for external backups. Do it.
