the best thing you can do is while downloading don't use the internet for anything else, but like hollow said you cannot go past the max of a 56kbps connection. You can try to find a very basic web browser. maybe find an older version that doesn't have as many features with it. Regardless of what everyone says using firefox on a dial up connection is NOT faster. I know from personal experience that it is slower, much slower. But thats to be expected because of all the add-ons and extra features. |

Indeed as Rob and Hollow said. You cant speed up a dial up, cause I used to had one also a cdma. do not use fire fox or IE, Use Opera. trust me on this. Opera is the best web browser for dialup connections ;) just use a a suitable lite version of opera and your good to go. also disable auto updates of windows, virus guard and any other soft. Manually update the software like virus guards. thats all I can tell you ^^

Another option is to try and upgrade your connection, nobody should be using Dial-Up in these days because the speeds can go up to lots more than that, like in Finland they are putting up a law that everybody must get at least 1mbps. Upgrading to a faster connection like 8mbps for example shouldn't be too expensive, of course, that also depends on the country you live in and how much you earn.

Do you live in the middle of no where Rob? 7 mbps here costs about 40 dollars. That is not a lot even. Did you check the prices recently too? Fiber optic cables have lowered the costs.

I can't get cable and satellite for 5mbps is 300$ Believe me I have checked all available options, and unless I want to pay several thousand for them to run the new fiber optic cable it is not worth it. also DSL is not available where im at hughesnet http://consumer.hughesnet.com/plans.cfm if I could get cable it would only be about 50 a month in a sense I live in a Bermuda triangle of internet service, i currently use an alltel cellular service for 60$ a month that is unreliable. but it's the best option so far for me
