Hey... What's up! Happy Canadians Day to all those Canadians out there =P. I've got one question today. As many of us know, torrents, regardless of software, usually requires us port forward a port in order to have our firewalls/routers to allow our computers to receive outbound and give out inbound data, or having dead slow speeds as if the old days were back. (28.8k! never really experimented it before) As I have done, I have forwarded my ports that i need in order to torrent, in my case, its Azureus. (In my case, it is 6999). So, in both my software and hardware firewalls, I have opened these ports. (software, i have comodo), (hardware, my router). The software part no problem. I also forwarded this port in my web setup for my router. As you can see in my title, 'PPPOE", which basically gives you the idea of what is the problem. I basically have one PC, while my brother has another. As he is also a big anime fan, and loves download licenced anime, he also uses torrents. Me? Not so much. I do download music occasionally, but thats basically it. What the problem is right now, is that my ISP has given my a PPPOE service. In other words, my setup in my router is also PPPOE, and at which changes my internal router IP all the time. Which is a problem, as in Azureus, I set my computer to use, ex. port 6999. I also forward ip. (192.168.15.101 - which is sometimes my internal ip) to also 6999. As you see, sometimes as I reboot my pc, my router might have assigned me 192.168.15.102. At which, this IP isn't forwarded, and which isn't designed to handle port 6999. So, do I forward all those IPs that will come into use to a certain range of ports, ex. 6998-6999, and which i have 1 pc using either, and the other the other one? which will work, but doesn't seem to really solve my problem that much. Does it work, yeah... i guess. But I think there should be another way? Isn't there? Can I set up a Static IP? I'm not quite sure how to do this. My router Manual doesn't really do much. Is it possible to set a static up while using my PPPOE modem? If possible, how do i assign specific ips to specific pcs? I mean, how will the router know which one to assign, if there is only DNS? 1? 2? 3? Won't the IPs still be randomly chosen? Thank you guys! GenesisX

A great question, mate! The exact same problem was happening to me, and I found a great solution. Below is the link to my first post here on AnimeA (and also gave me my first reputation points!). You may find it useful. ;-) http://www.animea.net/forums/f46/tor...html#post34803 Now, that link won't solve all of your problems, but it will get you off on the right foot. Honestly, I'm too tired to type out your solution right now, but I will get to it first thing tomorrow! My bed is calling to me....

Sweetness... Answers my question... Though setting this will be tmr. I guess I'll install something other than Azureus. Wanted to change sometime ago, but was too lazy. Seems to me that the Java component in Azureus takes up too much memory. My PC is as slow as it is. =P. Ummm... one problem... I can't get Azureus to find an open port anymore. I've tried many ports from 6881 - 6999, a few from 43000 - 53000 ( 1 or 2 at the beginning range ,and 1 or 2 at the end). I can't seem to find one. It always says NAT Error. I've currently left my router to PPPOE, while configuring my pcs to choose their own IPs. Apparently, my router in static requires a definite external IP. This IP in my case always changes (dynamic). This is because my router always disconnects and reboots before getting the new settings. Therefore this is impossible, or will take a long time. I'm also thinking of changing my ISP to a better place. For those who can have this ISP accessible, Tekksavy, which is a good move from Bell. Can't wait. Static for only 4 dollars more, instead of 100$ solid at where I am right now!

I used to be an Azureus guy too. Though, like you said, I just hated using so much of my system resources to run a downloading program! So I experimented with BitComet (back when it wasn't a "proper" BT client) Bit Lord, and even the origional BitTorrent client. Once I found µTorrent, I just never went back. You should really try it out. As for the ISP, I have never lived in Canada, so I have no idea how good your DSL or cable providors are. ;-)
