Yep. The ova was made independently of the series and was only released with the dvd box set so you can't insert it inbetween or anywhere in the episodes of the show. The best thing about the ova is that it cleared up some things about the characters relationships so..it was worth it. The reason why it was made later was because it was meant to be a bonus when you buy the dvd.
