Love Hotels Make Twice as Much as Anime

According to research cited in Japanese Love Hotels: A Cultural History, by Sarah Chaplin (242p. published by Routledge, available from Amazon), 30,000 Japanese love hotels earn more than 4 trillion yen per year in profit, which is twice the profit of the Japanese anime market. Approximately 1% of the Japanese population checks into a love hotel every day, and according to one study, 50% of all Japanese sex occurs in love hotels. Source: The Japan Times

I read about them in the Japanese culture section of Ai Yori Aoshi
you dont even have deal with any employees there you just go to a machine in the lobby select your room put in the money and your key pops out the more upscale ones are supposed to have themed rooms, fully stocked fridges and nothing but free porn on the t.v!

Maybe I should start buying love hotels in Japan. That's quite a bit of money. But why are the Japanese not doing it at their homes? Is it because 50% of all Japanese sex are affairs.

For the purpose of excitment I suppose, they're quite cheap so you can have an inexpensive dirty weekend with your partner

Somehow I am not surprised....

If only 1% ever go into a "love hotel", but that accounts for 50% of the sex in Japan....then........ I don't really know what to conclude.
