Stop Closing Threads just because they're old.

I haven't seen this much, yet two of the posts I stumbled upon today said something along the lines of stop grave digging or w/e

First off, if a thread is old, that doesn't mean discussion should just stop.
Threads should only be closed if a) It's a poll and voting is over. b) Topic is just stupid and is only full of spam c) The head admin doesn't want anyone to continue discussing a certain issue d) the original (index/first) post of the thread mentions that it will be locked/closed at a certain date

By just going around and saying "don't do this" "don't do that" your only scarring off or offending those newbies that actually went to the trouble of reading through this board to stumble upon such an old thread... you can't honestly think someone comes to this site, goes to the 10th page in a forum and just randomly says something, eh ? No need to assert your position as a mod, if the thread was meant to die, just let it die, no need to say this thread needs to die so I'm killing it <_<

I kinda of agree... But I usually just lock a thread that hasn't had any posts on it for at least 2 weeks. Or if it was a pretty pointless thread with no traffic to start with.

i think these guys are rite.. when i just joined i read threw some of the older topics and posted in some of them i had some mods and older members say stop grave digging.. at first i didnt even know what the hell that meant....

so i say that if someone took the time to read the thread and post there i think its ok..........
