Reuquiem for the Phantom

Review(characters/plot/storyline) : The story revolves around two young assassins Ein (female) and Zwei (male) who work for an underground mafia like org. named Inferno,which is ruthless in it's war against other mafia families for the dominance of the underworld in the U.S.
The main character Kaiji is an ordinary person who one day (while ona trip in Los Angeles U.S.) is a witness to a Inferno murder by an assassin Ein and her trainer and master,who sees potentian in Kaiji as an assassin,and thus brainwashes and trains him in the art of killing,and giving him the name Zwei,who is drawn into a world of conspiracy, deceit, tragedy and violence,and his only option for survival is killing for Inferno with is partner Ein also knows as Phantom (who has had the same tragedic faith as Zwei)

And so the story is countinued throught a period of 5 years,detaling the life of Ein and Zwei,their hardships ,love and drama,battle for and against Inferno and struggle for their unknown past,present and future.

My impression(Review add on) : Well the anime is brilliant,i was blown away how good it is i watched it in 2 days.The story is amazingly good and put together and balanced with really strong and touching music.The characters and very deep and well played.
The story goes throught a series of amazing plot twists which will keep you bound to the screen,even the last moments of the anime are like that,but incredibly sad.

Overall : 8.75/10 A anime not to be missed!

Well, if I haven't watched, I'd probably react like holloow, after reading that review. But since I have had, I'm kinda resistant to its enthusiasm =p

I liked this series only in the beginning, it had all elements, I love in the story - dark characters, lots of violence, sadness, mystery, but then it all just went in a wrong way =/ Illogical time skips, irrational characters and a MASSIVE abuse of "Yes, Master" phrase... Oh gosh... And the last part, in which two main characters visually haven't changed a bit, but a little girl managed to grown up boobs like from an adult movie? Meh...

I admit tho, it has a great animation and even better music.

As far, as I recall, I gave it 6/10, only because of the good first impression.

if the anime (like a lot of them) had finished at ep 10 (maybe and alternative ep11) it would have been much much better...
As for the characters,well it is an good animation,nothing special,it's hard to depict and re-draw char from the ages of 17 to 21-ish Kaiji's age...But ok they did overdo Cal,a lot,they turned her into Jemma Jemson...that pissed me off too.
As for the most of it,i guess it's only personal taste in anime ^^

personally i like the ova better, only 3 eps, shorter but have more feeling in it. even though i agree, the characters look and animation graphic in tv version better, i rather rewatch the ova than this tv series

Contrary to other comments here, I agree with the original poster and absolutely LOVED this series and finished it in 2 days as well... Thanks for the recommendation, I was having a dilemma whether to start myself on this series, and when I saw the review, I decided to go ahead with it. And I loved every bit of the anime!

I don't understand why some people on this thread didn't adore the anime. It had the suspence, the action, the romance and character development. I especially loved the characters, especially Reiji.

Definitely over 9/10 from me. The anime had the right length, and well, I thought it was absolutely brilliant!

Strong recommendation from me for those who are deciding whether to watch this as well!
