Kyon-Kun does have very good points. Im not one for dubs myself, but he has raised my eyebrows quite a few times. I wonder if this FC would turn hypocritical they listened to Japanese Dubs. I doubt they would, because the points are all the same I guess. Taking away 'originality' isnt a real factor though. Characters dont NEED to sound a certain way, its just what we got used to. Sure some characters wouldnt fit with a completely different voice, but lets face it, if it was slightly different no one would really care. Thus, originality is void in arguments. This is what I hate =P Compare it to when they change the actor in a movie or TV series for example. We're confused at first but then accept it. The voice and appearance has slightly changed but thats all forgotten about and we come to like the new person playing it (assuming his / her acting is good). Now, if that happened in an anime... See where Im going?

Be as it may... Japanese sounds MUCH better than English or any other language in an anime... Now call me what you want, it's true I don't know Japanese, but it just sounds so right... I just can't sit still hearing English dubbs, it just sounds WRONG.

@ Kyon-kun: Well, It's obvious that our debate will never come to an end, so I'll just leave it at that. Our disagreement seemed to focus on the originality of anime. You don't think the voice was part of the originality, while I very much do. @ Yiew: I can accept the changing of actors in movie and TV series because, as far as I know, circumstances forced it. Meanwhile, the changing of voice in dubs... See where I'm going? :)

I can see, but its still the acceptance factor is determined over whether its a visual representation (actor) or behind the scenes voice =P At least the debate brought a spark back into the thread

WOOT ! Don't think I'm down or something... I was just hoping some more discussions would occur :P I'm pretty new to anime so I guess it wasn't my place to start arguing without enough knowledge to support my theories :O

For example, and this may have been already said (but I am not going to read through the pages of old posts lol) Death Note. For one thing Light Yagami should speak Japanese to his family, yes I know he can speak english as well but I doubt Sayu can as fluently as he can. L should have a posh english accent, yes he is the most intelligent person in the world and can speak all the languages of the UN fluently but he grew up in Winchester England, therefore posh english accent. Same goes for Mello Matt and Near. Not attacking just in the english dub here but more so to the Japanese one. Why do Mello, Matt and Near all speak to each other in Japanese when they are in the U.S.A, grew up in England and are around english speaking people? And in the dub, yes they speak english but why does Mello sound like a whinging American teenager? All the Wammy's kids should sound posh and english!! And why do all the Japanese people speak english with American accents? I love Death Note and everything but the language flaws irritate me to no end, they should of put alot more working into the voicing, or have based all the characters backrounds in Japan, or the U.S. Sorry for the extremly long post but my best friend and I were having this exact discussion a few days ago. I would love to here all of your thoughts on this, and I am sure that Death Note isn't the only anime with this flaw. Has anyone else encountered this?

I feel like making a statement... I'm against dubs because they take away the originality of anime, which in this case the characters. I am a writer--a storyteller myself, so I consider that characters are very important parts of a story, and I understand exactly how much works are put to create just one character. Character's characteristics are not just on how they looked, but also on how they sounded, and by "how they sounded" I don't just mean the type of their voices, but also the way they speak. A simple example of this is Naruto's "dattebayo". One may think that dubs don't affect the anime too much, but I for one respect originality to its' highest level. Therefore, no matter how good they will ever become, I can not--except in special cases--accept dubs. Phew... Suddenly I feel lighter...

I write as well so I know exactly what you mean. Not just the voice, but also how they form their sentences, and no dub has the character saying the exact same thing in a different language. Originality for the win ^.^

Talking about saying the same things... You cannot even compare when some1 says some english joke in an anime.... First of all, there are no such jokes in the Japanese language, furthermore those jokes are plain stupid imo... And, I know I've said this before but, Japanese > English xD
