General Overview:
Captain Tsubasa キャプテン翼 ,is the first football/soccer manga/anime which started in 1981 by Yoichi Takahashi and it is probably one of the most influential one that existed. Its success has spawned several video games and inspired soccer players (I'll just use the term soccer) to start playing and enjoying soccer such as Hidetoshi Nakata and Seigo Narazaki and even some foreign players like Zinedine Zidane, Del Piero and Francesco Totti.

Story:
The story focuses on the adventures of a Japanese youth soccer team and its soccer captain Tsubasa Oozora 大空 翼,, whose name literally translates to "Big Sky Wings". The series is characterized by dynamic soccer moves (Aka crazy physics), often stylish and implausible. The plot focuses on Tsubasa's relationship with his friends, rivalry with his opponents, training, competition, and the action and outcome of each soccer match. I'm not going tell the complete story, it's way too long and you just have to read it to know.

Current State:
Here I would like to give you my personal view about the current situation of Captain Tsubasa. The show's popularity has gone down ever since they failed to finish Captain Tsubasa J and Road to 2002 animes where the story was butchered with endless remakes of the original season which looked nothing like in the manga. I agree myself, there are better animes out there today such as Whistle but when it comes to the manga, it's a totally different story and it's my number 1 manga. You don't really need to like soccer to like it but I don't even watch soccer. It's the crazy stylish techniques or shoots that keep me interested.

Is the manga still running?
Yes! It's called Golden 23 and it's being shown in Weekly Young Jump. The volumes sell pretty well in Japan and are usually among the top 10 or 20 mangas.

How old are the characters now?
Most of them are 20 years old.

Manga even if the anime was nostalgic.

Thanks. I add you to the member list and if you didn't watch the anime,that's because you were too young or perhaps not born yet or you live in the U.S :D and you know how much the U.S despise soccer. If they had that CT, things would have been different.
