during the holidays, I had a lot of time in my hands and I downloaded a lot of old animes ... sadly, I was only able to finish one series because they all have long number of episodes ... I download and plan to watch the following someday because I heard good things about these series ... Marmalade Boy (the only series I finished watching) Kimagure Orange Road (still wating for Live-Evil to finish subbing all episodes) Maison Ikkoku (96 episodes O.O) Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers) I also have some vcd and dvd copies of the following Candy Candy City Hunter Ranma 1/2 (is this considered old?, I think its a classic ... not sure) other old animes I enjoy Card Captor Sakura sadly I discovered anime when I accidentally watched Chobits ... and I've been trying to back track and find old animes I like ...

Welcome Welcome! I like your choice of series you like. Marmalade Boy was a good series. I'm not a fan of it but for what it is its good. City Hunter is great for its time. For a crime drama Its one of the few mangas that i read that was actually good. Never did see the anime or OVA's. As for Ranma 1/2 is considered a real classic as far as comedy anime goes. The manga Came out in '87 to i believe 96 or 97. The series it started in think in 1990 till about '92. The OVA has been released from 1993 to 2008. Now the OVA even though is has had a extremely slow release Technicly it would be old school. In my opinion the orginal series is only good for only about the first 2 seasons, 161 episodes of the same joke tends to get old after a while.

Maybe my choices of old school animes are more shoujo (girls) than for guys ... because they're more of the romance comedy genre and not much fighting or action ... are old school animes considered here are only those shown during the 60's, 70's and 80's? so those shown from 1990's and onwards are not included?

I don't mind a good romance story though comedy in anime for the most part i have never found all that funny but that's just me. As for what I would consider old school. It would have to be at least 10 years old. Anything from the 60's 70' and up to mid 80's are considered classics and would more the good enough to be a member of this fan club. So basically anything from 98 would be OK i suppose. I'm not going to be to picky about that but really anime did change when it was all hand drawn to cell shading. In my own opinion anime doesn't seem to have nearly as much work put into the animation as it used to when it was hand drawn. That's why i tend to read manga more often now. It seems like the artists put more work in there drawings and story.
