Age Gaps

Do you think large age gaps in relationships are wrong? or do you believe that age is just a number when it comes to love? I wanna hear what everyone thinks, so come on, let's hve a mass debate ;)

As long as neither party is a minor, it isn't illegal. I think it should mainly depend on the two people and their backgrounds and upbringing, but at the same time, if the age gap is too big, it can just sound wrong. There's also the problem of being in different generations entirely. You wont always know what the other is talking about, and it gets uncomfortable to have to explain things.

As long as both parties are legal, I see no problem with any two people getting together. While it is more common for people close in age to get together, you often see people with age gaps between them. My aunt and uncle are 10 years apart in age, but they are happy and they love each other. When it comes to love, age is just a number.

I'd have to agree that as long as neither party is a minor, there is nothing wrong with it.

Yes, age is just a number . . . but when it comes to relationships it depends . . . . . . we wouldn't wanna see a 99 year old man with a 16 year old wife right? even if they really love each other, I wouldn't want them to be together since (ehem) one of them is gonna leave sonner than the other one, and that'd hurt a lot (if they're really serious)

Love is one of those things that gets tossed around too easily in today's society. People too often say "I love you" when they don't really mean it. True love and true relationships are nurtured over time. As far as a difference in ages, yes I do beleive that love can occur between people of different age ranges from each other. However, this does not include everybody; those at the extremes should not be numbered.

It is wrong for an 8 year-old to go out with an 18 year-old, not to mention illegal. Same goes for a 80 year-old man marrying an 18 year-old girl. Besides the legal ramifications, it is hard to justify that the relationship between these people is not more than that of material value. "Love" turns into "money" too easily.

I agree with ya Black, love too often turns into "love of money" or translates into lust. While I do agree that its rare for the extremes to have the true love, it does happen. Discounting all those that marry for money, and just count those who actually love each other, then age shouldnt matter

I don't think it is a big deal as long as a minor isn't involved. If two people love each other I don't see how it is a bad thing. It doesn't matter what age they are. It's just a number. But like Raikadu said, the generation gap could bring problems. But I don't think you would fall in love with someone who you couldn't understand or communicate well with.

it's just a number... if you love someone even if he's older than your dad, as long as he truly loves you back and you're happy then that's great. this may sound a little selfish but with love, it's all about being happy and contented.. regardless of what other people think.

I believe neither of the suggestions. To me, age doesn't matter as long as the lovers are above the minor age group and are legally able to be in a committed relationship. It's a rather plain life to me if you will have to be with the same person all your life then, but yeah. I mean, it'd be better if they were the same ages since most of the time, if nothing drastic happens like a car accident, then they'd die at the relatively same time through old age, but they have no obligation to choose the opposite sex with the closer age group.

Remember, age doesn't justify maturity.
