If people can be rehabilitated, then they can get out of jail and benefit society, instead of using up our tax dollars to keep them in jail.

But chain gangs do benefit society and save tax dollars. Chain gangs bring societal restitution for the cost of housing, feeding, and guarding the inmates. The money earned by work performed goes to offset prison expenses by providing a large workforce at no cost for government projects, and at minimal convict leasing cost for private businesses. It can serve as a deterrent to crime as well as satisfy the needs of politicians to appear "tough on crime." And serving them only bread and water will certainly cut costs. (To be honest, I was only joking about my previous post)

Personally, I think it's rather cruel even if the criminals 'deserve' it. I don't think it is right for the government to kill a criminal. Also, I don't think one individual is above another. To kill is an extreme act. What if this criminal needs a second chance? | |

If you kill someone then you should die as well. There's people saying "but it's cruel"..well....they broke the law and they killed someone and they know it's against the law! Just put a bullet in their heads....what good does it do to give them a lifetime penalty? A waste of tax payers money..that's what it is... |

I know not many people would take advantage of the offer, but if people really don't want to live in jail, they shouldn't have to. But no one should have their life taken from them unless its their own free will.

Meh, too much taxpayer money, if we are going to do anything, lets let them participate in death matches, therefore we get the best of both worlds: them dying and a new sport to watch and the Vegas people to vote on!! I can see it now, *in sportscaster voice* "whose going to win, the inmate from Utah or the one from Maryland? The odds are 3:1 for the inmate from Maryland!"
