Wouldnt it now, Im not saying that I condone gambling or anything, but have you ever seen the documentaries on prison systems? There are people in for life who train every day, sun, rain, or snow, so why not get these people and let them do what they do best, kill, just they can kill each other instead of us.

I've been reading through here, and I guess my question would be, what do you all think that a prison system is for? I've seen that a lot of you think of it as a punishment. I don't see it that way at all, although it is in some aspects. I see a prison system as a way of separating those people that are a danger to us out from the rest of the population. If they wish to rejoin the rest of the population, and if they've shown that they are capable of it than they are, eventually allowed to do so. As far as the death sentence goes, I would say this: are there not some people out there that we cannot even RISK letting get out?
I work for a state supreme court. I have read some of these cases. I would never trust some of these people to even live in the same city as me, much less be my neighbor. How about the guy who killed an 80 year old grandmother in her sleep, using a tire iron to smash her throat in? After he did so he stole her jewelry box, a vcr, and even the booties that she was knitting for her grandchildren. The next day he was laughing to his friend about how he watched her "Gurgle on her own blood."
Yes, I agree that life is sacred. But, how can we protect our friends and families from such a person who would LAUGH about such a thing? I think this is a war. There are some risks that are acceptable. There are some that are not. If this guy who I mentioned above has any chance at all of returning to society through ANY method, including escape, then I do not think it is an acceptable risk.

No, you have many valid points, lumdy. I think having them in jail is punishment because they are confined away from the rest of society. I do agree that there are lots of people, felony offenders included, who should be allowed to reenter society and resume their lives... So I am not for every inmate to die, Im just for the ones with multiple life sentences, who will never have a chance to return to society (like that guy you were talking about) and those should be put to death instead of clogging up our prison system.

I guess what I'm saying is that I don't think that "punishment" is the meaning of prison. I think the meaning of prison is to protect those outside of it from those who are inside of it. I don't make any sense ; ; sorry.

It makes perfect sense. So prisons are more for the general, non-crime committing public than for the prisoners in the sense that they exist to protect, rather than keep in.

But that probably didn't make much sense... ^^

Exactly! And I think that's the perspective that we need to look at this issue from. Imo it's not something to debate over whether it's a proper "punishment" or not, but something to debate over whether it is really for the good of the people who are not being executed.

I understand. Thats reasonable. I do agree that prisons are integral to segregate the criminals (well most of them at least) from the normal law abiding citizens. However, since the topic of this discussion is whether you are pro or con death penalty, I do believe that by killing the worst criminals that have no chance of EVER getting out of prison (except by escape) should be put to death in that off chance that they are able to escape back into society, therefore preserving the sanctity of the normal citizens.

Another thing is that the normal law abiding citizens must pay to maintain these menaces to society, so Im for killing them in that sense too. I know they are paying to preserve the society without convicted felons, however there are many thousands of criminals that live throughout society, so even if the tax money goes to making society safer, it is still no safe.

Yeah I go for the death penalty criminals who take lives should have their taken away, it's a small price for all the deaths and grievances of the family members!!

i m not for death penality at all
spending almost your whole life in the prison is almost like a death penality as you cant live your life freely...and living your life freely is what acutally counts as living anyways.
Therefore if someone is to spend 30 -40 years ina prison....i just think after a soo long time ..everyone needs a 2nd chance
because they may have changed
(even though i would wish death penality to my enemies)

I am only half against Death Penalty...want to know why?....

Im not offending anyone but obiusly you havent seen or felt Mercer's point of view..he's anger is too much cause of course..his friend died and the killer was able to LIVE...of course some people are alright..but what about Mercer?wouldnt he be pissed cause he was already getting his revenge then it was taken back?wouldnt YOU?

You've got a really great best friend taht you treat as a brother/sister..then some pshyco bastard murdered him/her and was sent to prison but got out..
wouldnt you get pissed?..dont get me wrong cause if you lie here and you felt it 1 day..you'll understand what im saying..basically im just telling you guyz to "Imagine if you were in Mercer's position"then some of your fellow AnimeA buds go with you or against you..wouldnt that piss people off?..you may now know it but once you experience it..theres no1 denying that you dont want revenge..the very thing that makes us unperfect -_-....

The half against Death Penatly came cause some people are just innocent but given the wrong blame(watch Prisonbreak season1..that is 1 HELL OF A GREAT EXAMPLE)..Death Penalty should be given after great studying..rehabilitasyon should be done STRICTLY and greatly that NO ONE CAN ACT..if people were rehabed. and they were just faking then they could do it again better(realizing their faults and now using their minds)so as not to make anoter mistake and let another innocent life die...
Im half against it..but mostly it came from innocence and my trust to the Lord..if it wasnt for those..i wouldve agreed 100% with Mercer
