Just read an article that correlated obesity with the amount of sleep a child got. I'm just wondering nowadays how much sleep "today's kids" are getting. Seems that, with the internet (anime direct downloads, cough cough), there are even *more* distractions. Or were there enough things to keep the parents awake "when they were kids" that we crossed that line a *long* time ago? "Johnny, you stop playing that Atari and go to sleep!" ![]() Study: More sleep can cut kids' obesity risk CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- Here's another reason to get the kids to bed early: More sleep may lower their risk of becoming obese. Researchers have found that every additional hour per night a third-grader spends sleeping reduces the child's chances of being obese in sixth grade by 40 percent. The less sleep they got, the more likely the children were to be obese in sixth grade, no matter what the child's weight was in third grade, said Dr. Julie Lumeng of the University of Michigan, who led the research. If there was a magic number for the third-graders, it was nine hours, 45 minutes of sleep. lol, I for sure didn't get 9 hrs and 45 min of sleep a night as a kid. =p I got like 5-7. lol, good thing I was always active in sports. =p Right now I get about 6 hours of sleep per night. Maybe closer to 5 sometimes. O_o

6 for me too I normaly go to bed between 12.30 and 1 am then get up at 7 for college seeing as I'm in college 9-6 every day I end up staying up that late to get my study done and watch anime

On week days about 2-3 hours average. Excluding power shortages (sleeping in class, I mean) at school, I get 4-5hours of sleep, then one or two days missing sleep. On weekends, about 6-7 hours.

I get about 7 hours of sleep every day. I try my best to sleep for as long as i can. ^_^

i go to collage and work so on weekdays i get around 6-8h sleep ,but on the weekedn around 14-16h :) ...lol i got to make up for lost sleep

Thanks for the replies. (: Seems like there's a trend so... How does having less than the "conventional" 8 or 9 hours affect your lifestyle? Are you doing just fine with "less" sleep? Does it catch up with you? And... is that obesity claim true or full of bunk? Thanks! |
