Cool I'm looking for something story driven, with depth in the characters

Thanks to previous recommendations from people on this site I have been watching my first 'round' of anime.

What I am after now as per my title is something with a little depth and story driven content. I'm not worried about the genre as I'm always open to something new... but what I don't want is the 'you must reach this level to battle this person' type anime like bleach.

For example I have watched some School Rumble, and although it is kinda stupid I found the characters were written very well (even if they were very stereotypical). I also enjoyed the initially unknown but eventually revealed past aspect of the caracters from Cowboy Bebop and Saurai Champloo.

I'm not sure if i'm making sense here but if you understand and can recommend me anything I will be eternally grateful!

Thanks in advance... J

Eureka seven is a good one in terms of being story driven
and it has excelent character development
Higurashi is a good one it's a sort of murder mystery you have to watch different senarios over the 2 seasons to get the full picture

Four recommendations, two pretty new and two old, but in my opinion worth watching. They all have interesting, not-so-obvious plots and nice characters development. In chronological order:

Boogiepop Phantom
Haibane Renmei
Ergo Proxy
sola

Blood +
Death Note
Honey and Clover(romance, drama)
and Monster <---- this is a must if you want a really deep plot, it's 74 episodes long and every episode is worth watching

These four animes all go deep in the psyche of the characters so I hope you'll enjoy them.

Try these:

> Neon Genesis Evangelion - although there maybe some controversy regarding the characters and the story, the psychology behind it is worth watching.

> Ghost in the Shell - this one has very deep and serious storyline, especially the movie. One that will make you think after watching it.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

So far I have watched Boogiepop Phantom which I enjoyed but it left me feeling as if I didn't fully understand it, so I may have to give it another watch sometime.

I have also started watching Ergo Proxy (as you can probably tell from my new pic) and this looks like it will be very good indeed, just what I was after.

So once again thanks

Much love , spread the peace an all that - J
