Ah, unless I'm much mistaken starblazers is the alternate name for Space Battleship Yamato is it not? I rented that one from netflix.... and I spent the entire time laughing at it (it's not a comedy btw.) Look up the name in youtube sometime, and tell me if I'm wrong. As far as your request, everybodies pretty much covered any recomendations I could give, though top on my list would be gundam and hellsing.

A great Sci-fi/action/Comedy adventure type anime would be the Original Dirty Pair. Check out the OVA and the movie Project EDEN. There is a series but good luck finding it in decent quality and ADV still has the rights for it and wont release it. There are other Movies but Project EDEN is the best of em all. In both the OVA and the movie there is tons of actions a good amount of comedy and lots and lots of things blowing up. The OVA was made back in 1987-1988 and th movie was made in '87.
Also check out the original Macross. Made back in 1982. It the perfect sci-fi/Romance anime out there.

I wonder why Legend of Basara is not mentioned? It's like about 10 yrs old? I love it so much, one of my top 10. But the problem about it is, it's incompleted. :( (i heard it didn't have good ratings so they stopped animating it! how heartbreaking!). I'm reading the manga now though, to finish the story off :) I really suggest you give this a try, thats if you dont mind an incompleted anime.
