Its just an arguement I had with a Christian. I believe in Christianity but I absolutely don't want to be called one. That term is stained by the rotten "Christians" in today's society. What do you think about prayer? Do you believe that God answers your prayers? "I don't think God answers your prayers," that was all it took to have a big arguement. I view God as a father figure that let's you suffer on your own to "grow up." If you're in deep shit because of financial troubles God won't save you. If you're daughter/son is dying from some illness, God won't cure her/him. I think prayer is a something to do to either thank God for your blessings or to recieve comfort by talking about all your worries. I guess I could how he got pissed off about that but still it's annoying. Christians once they hear something that goes against their belief just enter into their own world and ignore everything. It's infuriratingly annoying and it instilled in me some negative feelings toward you average Christian. |

I am not a Christian but I feel the same way. A prayer is like a form of mediation a way to seek guidance and draw strength to help us to achieve what we want but praying s not going to do any good if we are just going to sit back and refuse to take control of the situation and hope for someone to do it for us I dont think it is pointless if you use it as a means of giving yourself strength and to clear your mind but I think it is pointless if you are just going to sit back and expect your problems to just go away on their own because you prayed

that's only what you believe and it's the narrow minded reply to be expected from someone who doesn't understand anything about prayer, spirituality or the pursuit of inner peace. Yes there are prayers that religions say aloud for the most part they serve as a something to help you focus your mind with the imagery that the words evoke much like the way a mantra works in Buddhism. You say that people who pray are fools who talk to themselves but you don't understand that prayer serves as a meditation for those who believe. Yes some people have delusions that by praying a higher power will make everything alright other use it to relax and find some peace so that they may focus themselves to work through a difficult time believing that their faith is giving them the strength to pull through.

I don't want to hijack this thread. But personally, when my mom prayed when she went to some religious groups awhile back. She had an illness and going to the prayer meetings just made her get worse and worse. I went once and I thought I walked into a cult.

why do all you gotta hate jesus so much? XD god doesnt answer all prayers, but if you ask him for help he will help you in the way that you need it most, which might not be exactly what you ask for. its not pointless and he does listen. i get what you're saying about the term being stained, theres a whole bunch of stupid christians but there a lot of stupid people in almost every other identifable group too.

we all have our views, i was brought up and confirmed and baptized in the lutheran church but i have no more faith or belief in god. they say god created man in his own image, yet i believe it to be now that mankind created god so that he could have something to believe in. i have more belief in buddhism than i do in god. and it will take irrefutable proof now for me to even change my mind. |
