Do they ever THINK to veer off, to leave that path. As in, do they ever try? Have they just been at a standstill, spurring nothing within themselves except for thoughts of what they WOULD do, COULD do, SHOULD do? Do they ever TRY? Shrinks don't have to be your source of light, but it would help if you were to seek one. I feel like we're on the same track, but we have different ways of expressing it. Notice how I said last resort? As in suicide, man. If you're through with it all, go ahead, be my guest, end your misery. I just don't think you should go there until you've tried to fix some of your problems. If you get further abused, then oh well, at least you tried.

Killing yourself is a selfish think to do. A person, who kills commits suicide, cares only about themselves. They forget about the people that will be hurt when they are gone and is the cowards way out

I would think that most people who want to kill themselves have tried at the very lest one thing (whether it be meds counseling, whatever) and I think for the majority those sources of help would work. But there are times they don't and the individual has the right to choose. That's all I'm saying.

I don't think it's the cowards way out at all and I think it's heartless of people to say such a thing.

Yeah, good, we've reached a conclusion to our quarreling. I still think of it as cowardly, but you know, it seems that us two are the type of people that are stubborn in our own beliefs - I know I am - and so it seems this two-person argument isn't going anywhere anyways.

dt905, you'd think that if the person had people that would care if they were to suicide, they wouldn't kill themselves. Oh gee, then again, some friends & family just don't try hard enough. The bastards.

@dt905 what if the family member was giving the suicidal to be a misplaced kindness?
like they say things like 'it's for your own good that I am constantly stabbing you at the back' etc.

It's easy to point and accuse and call people selfish and cowardly when you have never been in a position that just seemed hopeless to the extent were you would go out and put an end it it all

If thats the attitude people have it's a wonder why more people are not commiting suicide
try to have more compassion and understand the emotional distress and dispare suicidal people go through. Many people in who try to commit suicide feel isolated and alone through the failing of relationships the breakdown of the family pressure from socioty and other people

I went through a period like that I couldnt find my feet in college I was under pressure to preform well and I couldnt I lost most of my friends because the went away to different colleges so my social life took a nose dive and to top it off I got with a girl who cheated on me with someone I thought was my friend I fought through it I talked to people but many feel that there is nobody they can talk to

Yes I agree that suicide is not the answer to lifes problems but as friends family and socioty we have a responsiblit to watch for the signs, which are difficult to spot because people can put on a strong front (when I told people of my problems they were actually surprised and had no idea because I had hid it so well) and be ready to be understanding and helpful not stand back and sneer "your a coward, your weak , your selfish" If you have hit the bottom and have lost hope, feel isolated, think nobody cares about you and your existance means nothing this will only serve to galvanise your beliefes with tragic results

Why do people get all butt hurt when discussing suicide as opposed to murder? You have to remember these people are killing a human being for no good reason at all, even if it is themselves. This is selfish and cowardly. We don't give murderers or rapists a free ride when they kill/rape someone because of their emotional distress, depression or mental problems. And these guys are usually MUCH more fucked up than suicidal people. Its not selfish or cowardly to have problems or even be suicidal but my compassion stops at the line where they kill themselves.

Of course this is only one context. There are many situations that where suicide is the heroes way out.(eg.solider jumping on a grenade) Or the proper way out.(Euthanasia) Which is why it pisses me off when people try to argue that people who kill a human being because their girlfriend left them or they read Harry Potter spoilers are somehow heroic.

suicide you decide to take your own life and are not inflicting harm on others or infinging on their human rights
murder you take someone elses life against their will in this case both physical harm and a deniyal of a human right is carried out

how can both of these be compared? the only way they even exist in the same context is a murder suicide like purposly crashing a train bus or airliner or killing people before kill yourself like Chris Benoit did last year

After reading some of these comments all I can say is wow.........To those who call all people who commits suicide cowards all I have to say is you are not giving any thought into the circumstances at all. Do I like or agree with it, no, but I have een through a couple cases that were really close to me. I am aware it cause a lot of people pain, but they were in a lot of pain themselves. When you are in pain, especially mental pain it is easy for your thought process to get distorted.

Anyways, I am going to lay out 3 different cases, you all tell me which person is the coward.

1. A soldier who is going to die anyways due to injury commits suicide.

2. A firefighter who servered for 15 years, but lost it after the death of his son commits suicide.

3. A guy who gets his girlfriend pregnent and skips town. (this person does not commit suicide)

Which is the coward to you?

Look, it is really easy to put a label on somthing, but look a little more into the reason before you judge.
