Views on marijuana

What's everyone views on marijuana?

Personally, I do smoke marijuana, and I think it should be legal.

I know it's bad for you, but so are Alcohol and smoking.

So why not legalize it? I believe it's the persons choice if they wish to smoke it.

I'm not saying to the people who hasn't tried it to go and smoke it, but personally, I like it, It makes me feel good, makes me forget about my problems, and I generally have a good time with my friends. I never smoke alone.

So, anyone else? views?

well you are saying you dont smoke it alone ,..i guess thats fine as long as its like that ...but there are some people who will get addicted to it ..and will smoke it alone.
Just the smoking together isnt good too ...<-< its a kind of drug after all ne?
and i think they should'nt even legalize to smoke or drink alcohol ...these are bad habits
how many lifes have paid for this unnecesary habit ?
i do smoke ....and i m not very proud of it ... its a bad habit after all ..>.<

I do not smoke Marijuana, and I am against smoking and alcohol in general.
But, I don't believe it should be illegal either (well, I think a lot of should be legal lol). 'Legal, not compulsory.' Something I strongly believe in.

I had a lot of friends during high school who smoked Marijuana, and few daring enough to even grow them in the science lab.

Some people that get addicted to it and must smoke it alone must not have a good social life, I've smoked weed for 3 years now, I mostly smoke it 3 - 4 times a weed, not addicited at all.

As to it being illegal, its stupid. This freakin Drug War has made about 60% of the arrests in the united states arrests relating to cannabis. Why not use the man power to capture rapists and murders?? There is something fundamentally wrong with our government.

As to legalizing it... Popular Mechanics ran an article in the February 1938 about how hemp has the potential to become the worlds first billion dollar crop. Hemp can be used for everything from ethanol for gas, to make biodegradable plastics, to clothes, to food... Why not legalize it??

an acre of hemp is equvilant to turning 4 acres of trees into paper.

Yep, isnt it weird how the government can make anything look bad, and once one powerful nation supports something, the other nations make similar laws to be on the powerful nation's side... cannabis is illegal in most of the world just because some rich bastard land owners in Washington didnt want to lose the money they would get for their trees by the hemp industry, so they used propaganda against it then made it illegal...

*cry* Well, I had an entire argument from my college writing composition class, but it appears that the file was accidentally deleted, and coincidentally.. I lost my only hard copy(or the teacher never gave it back..).

First of all, the reason that it was originally made illegal in the united states was based upon prejudice and bias reasoning. I do not feel like rewriting the entire paper word for word, so I will allow any curious readers to explore the web or any other resource on their own. Just like the prohibition, this is one of those substances that will become legal in due time.

The plant itself is a godsend and has provided mankind with more applications then I would care to fully list. Its oils can be used for fuel(Wiki: It does, however, produce more energy per acre per year than corn, sugar, flax, or any other crop currently grown for ethanol or biodiesel). Its fibrous layer under the "bark" has been used for ages as a rope in pre-industrial revolution vessels(Wiki: it produces 250% more fiber than cotton and 600% more fiber than flax when grown on the same land). It also can be used to make cloths.

Medically speaking, marijuana is a wonder drug. It not only helps relieve pain for many different illnesses, but it is not nearly as addictive as other alternatives which can leave their users without choice. As for its addictiveness, it is generally not. Sure, there are people out there that can get addicted to anything.. but that it not the drugs fault.

As for its recreational value, it is practically like tobacco except that it makes you feel good.

Economically speaking, legalizing marijuana would free up police resources to catch real criminals and provide large amounts of space in our prisons. The cost of having those so called "criminals" in jail is costing the United States funding that could be redirected to education or reconstructing our infrastructure(among other things). A recent report stated that over 1% of all Americans are now in jail. That is a lot of people.. and I guarantee a good chunk were busted due to marijuana. If legalized, the substance could then be taxed and provide a large amount of revenue to the U.S. It also would become an available crop for our farmers, providing them with a high-yield/high profit crop to sell in markets across the world.

There is a lot of false propaganda out there... much of which started with Anslinger.

Anyway, anyone who wants to read up on this subject should feel free to do so. It is quiet fascinating.

YATTA!! Someone else agrees with me! I agree with everything that EPDJ said, hemp is a godsend. A few other things, marijuana is actually a derogatory slang for cannabis or hemp, it was given this name as propaganda against cannabis. One other thing about the seeds is that they contain 2 essential oils found nowhere else on the planet that help naturally reduce cholesterol
