Writer's Strike

I noticed that the REC(arts, music, and anime...) forum was discussing this, so I thought I would start it here.

I know that this does not have a huge impact on Animea members(due to the fact that this is a global community and that we prefer to download anime =p), but a strike in the United States has been going for almost a month now(not sure of the start date of the strike). This strike has brought many popular shows like Jon Stewart, Conan O' Brian, David Letterman, and Jay Leno.. along with many other prime time and late night television programs to temporarily halt production until the strike is over.

I believe one or two of the talk shows recently announced that they will not wait for the strike to end, rather they will make due without the main writers(despite a drop of witty humor).

I personally do not disagree with the idea of the strike... but at the same time, they are ruining the very few hours that I actually watch TV.

Anyway, what is your opinion on the matter?

some of the late night shows like Letterman, Conan O Brien and Jay Leno are going back on air because i think they were told that if they don't start filming again (they were showing re-runs for the past month), the other employees who are not writers might be laid off ...

I think it was Conan O Brien who was paying for the salary of his staff while there was a strike ... but of course he can't do that forever

I heard that there has been a stand off in the negotiations and the Writer's Guild filed a case against the networks

Economy is not as good in many countries and in the US, the dollar is getting weak ... the writers are fighting for future royalties and they deserve to earn from their ideas.

Well I'm not effected by it but I'd have to say I support them
For too long now writers have been given the short end of the stick they deserve a decent return form their hard work and talent

Yeah it's kinda crazy, i heard that Conan and Leno are pretty much going to impovise in their shows. This strike does actually affect me because i watch shows like 24, Heroes and Lost which are being halted because of the strike. And with no seeable ending to the strike i fear for my favourite shows.

gosh i hate the writer's stirke. Heroes was affected by it :(...
and the oscars are gonna be ruined to

but i do think it's fair enough to want to get money off dvds, they DID write the show

Yeah they cut the second season in Heroes in half. The cliffhanger was kinda tame. But i agree with you guys, writers do have the right to demand better pay, just like everyone else. I just wish that the strike won't last too long.
