yeah i also recomend kimi ha nozomu eien..although it is not really a comedy but a drama that makes you cry (at least it made me cry).
also i recommend

ouran high school host club (sooo funny and lil bit romantic)
fruits basket (funny and cute)
princess tutu (kinda funny)
fullmetal alchemist (funny but also dramatic and action)
death note (not comedy but a must see)
chrno crusade (sometimes funny, a lil bit romantic but very dramatic)
dnangel (romantic and a lil bit funny)
sailor moon (funny and romantic too)
escaflowne (romantic and action mainly)

Hayate no Gotoku.
Comedy about a boy who inherits a massive Dept from his parents and trys to work it off.

Yeah, Hayate is also good, its 54 episodes long before the second season come if I remember correctly.

Also, my recommendations:

School Rumble (all of them)
Pani Pony Dash (for some laughs)
Muteki Kanban Museme (a.k.a Ramen Fighter Miki, for laughs)
Lucky Star OVA
Love Hina series
Soul Eater (still airing though, 19 subbed episode released)

Paradise Kiss is pretty good. Also I''s Pure is good too.

I would recommend:
- Byosousoku 5 centimetoru (It is simply the best movie I've ever seen)
- The place promised in our early days (same director as above so an equal masterpiece)
- Saikano
- Lovely Complex (hilarious and romantic at the same time)
- Clannad (just finished this one and it was awesome)
and of course The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (both romance and humor)
Q: Did you like school days? 'Cause it turned my gut upside down :S
