The demon fox relishes the thought of killing Naruto, cause it knows it has to help as long it's sealed within him or it will die. The Kyuubi is a giant beast of almost complete malevolence, if you think it actually cares for Naruto or anyone other than itself, than you are waaayyy off.

You are misinterpreting what he said though.

Saying that he would take revenge on Sasuke if Naruto were to die would be completely implausible because the Kyuubi would die as well. Talking subjectively, there are a number of possible reasons why he could've said it:

• To save its own life. Knowing that if Naruto were to die, he wouldn't survive either. It's playing with Sasuke's ambitions, to give him a negative self-doubt as a defense mechanism (It puts the question in Sasuke's mind, "What would I regret?").

• To warn Sasuke of the fate of a Mangekyou user. It's evident that the Kyuubi has knowledge of the Uchiha Clan, and Sharingan as by its own words, Such would be the power of that accursed Sharingan... and your forsaken ancestry." Thus, it may be warning Sasuke that by killing Naruto, he would obtain the Mangekyou Sharingan and his eyes would slowly descend to darkness and follow the path of his "forsaken ancestry" before him.

• To warn Sasuke of Madara. Since the Kyuubi was once manipulated by him, it may know more than we know about the Sharingan and of Madara's plans. It doesn't take a genius to notice that Madara needs Sasuke for something, we can only speculate what that is right now, but he has been watching him, tracking his progress and trying to play with his mind to gain his trust. Even Itachi tried to prevent them from ever meeting each other, by transplanting Amaterasu in Sasuke's Sharingan, which would trigger at the glimpse of Madara's face.

• He believes Naruto is the only one who can stop the evil beyond the horizon, *cough*Madara*cough*. There is no doubt that the Kyuubi has held a grudge against Madara for controlling him in the past. He may want revenge, and if the time comes when Madara becomes a threat to the entire ninja world, and Sasuke alone can't stop him, he'll need Naruto's help.

That's all I can think of right now, we'll just have to wait till Kishimoto gives us a better insight.

Ya, i think the reason the Kyuubi warned sasuke was because he had some knowledge of the Uchiha clan. I mean, we still dont know exactly what happens when a Uchiha kills their friend and gets the Mangeyoku

@senju : if naruto died,The kyuubi wouldn't die in the fact that a normal "living" being would.Since its an immortal creature formed from pure elemental charka,which appears naturally every centrury.

Hell NOOOOOO, dont compare kyuubi the monster to ken-chan ^_^, ken-chan is a good guy, Kiyuubi has some seerious selfish problems. It Is a beast of no value for life.

I wonder something,will naruto even stop wearing that stupid bright orange jump suit >_> ... i mean,isnt the point of a ninja to be stealthy ... well officially he is still a Genin,so he can't wear that green west and black suit underneath ,but of all the Konoha 12,only Shikamaru wears it,the rest all have their special outfits ...
