I like the sub (or RAW Jap) version since that's what I've been watching for the whole ten years. I won't even touch the dubbed version with a long stick because of the ridiculous rename-ings of the characters. I mean...Jimmy Kudoh? WTH

I would have to say that the subs are better. Unlike most of the bouchered animes out there, the dubs weren't bad at all. I actually enjoyed listening to them talk. However, the anime was made in 1996 with 400+ episodes now. Case Closed is only on the 83rd something episodes... there is no excuse. No excuse for that. That's why most people have to turn towards the subs after they can easily finish watching the dubbed version.

Dubs can be OK....sometimes. I can think of about 3 shows I'll actually watch dubbed (SuperGals, His and Hers Circumstances, and Ranma 1/2). The rest of the stuff I watch...well, most of them I first heard in Japanese, so I'm more used to the Japanese voices, and the English ones don't sound right. And Sailor Moon I won't watch in the dub anymore (though I used to, as it was the first anime I ever got into and I could only find the dub version) because the voices hurt my head. And I really don't like how they go about changing names weirdly. The name changes in Conan really bother me, to the point where I won't even buy the Viz release manga. Some of the name changes I can understand--"Rachel" for Ran, "Doc" for Hakase, "Inspector Meguire" (or whatever it was) for Megure-keibu--others simply don't make any sense. Worse yet are the random cases of names that don't get changed. I flipped through one of the most recently released volumes the other day at the bookstore and found the file wher Kazhua first appears. They didn't change her name. Which makes it look weird, because they did change Heiji's name (to "Harley Hartwell" or some nonsense like that). It'd've made more sense if they changed Toyama Kazuha to "Kelly Thompson" or something along those lines. Eh, whatever. I would love to see what they come up with to keep the chapters where the teacher plays a code-game with the kids. Since they renamed the kids, that case does not work. |
