The Bikini Effect Makes Men Impulsive

Bikinis and other sexy stimuli can make men more prone to seek immediate gratification — leading to blown diets, budgets and bank accounts, new research suggests. In the study, detailed in the Journal of Consumer Research, men alternately fondled t-shirts and bras (which were not being worn during the test). After touching the bras, men valued the future less and the present more, said lead researcher Bram Van Den Bergh of Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. Viewing ads with women in bikinis had the same effect.


It wasn't that the men were simply distracted by their sexual arousal, which caused them to choose more impulsively. On the contrary, they exhibited improved cognition and creativity after exposure to sexy stimuli.


The researchers conclude that there is one common appetite system in the brain monitoring our desire for a host of pleasures from sweets to pretty faces, alcohol to lotto winnings. When it is stimulated by, say, a sexy picture or the smell of baked goods, we experience a general craving for anything pleasant. "Basically, you just want to be rewarded," explained Barbara Briers, a researcher at HEC Paris School of Management. Briers, who has conducted related research, was not involved with this study.

Man found in basement covered in BBQ sauce

APPLETON, Wisc. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A couple in Wisconsin telephoned police in the middle of the night after finding a man in their basement covered head to toe in barbecue sauce.

"He told the officers that it was urban camouflage," said the homeowner.

The homeowners say they woke up to whistling sounds. The husband grabbed his shotgun and headed toward the basement where he found the sauced-up intruder. He held him at gunpoint until police arrived.

The guy told officers he had covered himself in barbecue sauce because he wanted to hide from the government.

He now faces burglary charges.

Armed police officers and a bulletproof police car patrol an Olympic traffic lane in Beijing on Saturday, July 12, 2008.

Thirty-nine bulletproof police cars rolled onto roads in Beijing on Saturday as part of the city's enhanced security efforts for the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games.

With armed police officers on board, the cars will be on duty around-the-clock patrolling Olympic traffic lanes, dealing with emergencies and handling possible terrorist attacks, according to a Xinhua News Agency report.

The Beijing Games organizers have taken comprehensive measures to protect the August and September events, including the deployment of air defense missiles around major venues and the setting up of checkpoints on the main roads leading to the capital.

The municipal traffic authority has designated the leftmost lanes on some of the city's main arteries as Olympic lanes with road-surface markers and roadside signs that show the five-ring logo as well as yellow sidelines.

The Olympic lanes will be reserved during certain hours for vehicles transporting Olympic and Paralymic officials, athletes and the media. Private passenger vehicles will be allowed to use the lanes at all other times.

I doubt a terrorist would target specific officials
if there was any sort of attack (I pray there wont be)
I'd say it would be the general populace to spread as much fear and carnage as possible
