| Guest | Just saw the brilliant Ergo proxy, 1st couple of episodes at friend's.I haven't seen the rest but it looks like an update of the Wereeolf myth updated to sci-fi level. Am i wrong? Good job though!Very atmospheric and it's not much of a spoiler but those talking stone statues in all the episodes with the disconnected voices made my skin creep! Kind of a subjective thing, I think. some spoiler space for some very general spoilers: spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace spoilerspace There are some tortured souls, and there are some shape shifters, and some are both. In a very general sense, yeah, it's like a werewolf myth, to me. I hadn't really thought about it that way. Interesting. DBB |

It is a good Sci-fi anime. One of the producers of the artwork was at Anime Fest this past year. They did every frame in Photoshop. He had some examples on his laptop. He was quiet disappointed with the Japanese DVD release, as it missed many of the tiny elements that they put into the art work. He was looking forward to a HD version at some point. I don't think the talking stone figures helped the story. They are never clearly explained in the series. | Guest | You know, I tried to follow this when it was televised last year, but large parts of it were just too dark and murky for me to really feel confident that I knew what was happening.........literally too dark. Even watching it with all the lights off, I'd lose track of the action sometimes. I probably do need new glasses, but, still, it didn't have to be _so_ darned dark to pull off dystopia........... |

Of all the Anime I've seen in recent years, I think this is the one that clicked with me the best. But then I do totally love sci-fi, and strong female character leads. -- x theSpaceGirl (miranda) http://www.northleithmill.com -.- Kammy has a new home: http://www.bitesizedjapan.com |

I loved it so much. I guess I didn't pick up on the warewolf feel; to me it came across as the perfect sci-fi riff. Packced full of innovative ideas, questioning what it is to be human, how technology can corrupt & enhance our lives... oh I wont go on and one, but I really really liked this series. -- x theSpaceGirl (miranda) http://www.northleithmill.com -.- Kammy has a new home: http://www.bitesizedjapan.com |

I think that the werewolf mythos is only a component of the main theme of the show. I think the reason why some (most?) folks don't pick up on the werewolf theme is that there is more going on than just the issue of a monster running around. For example, we all have the question of "what is a Proxy", but it is couched more like "what was and is the function of Proxies in that society?" because it is quite clear there was an agenda. Which brought the audience to the question of "what was or is the agenda?" (note, "the agenda", not "there agenda"). To me, Ergo Proxy was more of a dark SF version of "The Prisoner", which means I like Ergo Proxy (I liked "The Prisoner" a lot). The subtle things can be lost if you don't pay attention -- and sometimes even if you do. Definitely something I want to spend some time and watch as a whole. |
