Default SciFi channel starting an anime block

From Anime News Network, SciFi channel is starting their own
block of anime, "AniMonday", from 11 PM to 1 AM. The first
showing will be June 11, when they show "Ghost in the Shell:
Solid State Society". After that the shedule shows "Noein" at
11 and "Tokko" at midnight. They will showing titles from
Manga, Inc., which explains the GitS:SSS, Noein and Tokko
listings.

(And at least gives us a chance at showing Castle of Cagliostro to
cable-newbies.)

Wow, late-nite anime on Sci-Fi Channel...WHAT A CONCEPT! :)

Derek Janssen (wonder if they'll show "Robot Carnival" and "Project A-Ko
Grey/Blue"!)

If I'm remembering right, they've been here before. I recall Sci-Fi Channel
was where I first saw Galaxy Express 999, way back when.

Since Adult Swim has "Ghost in the Shell TV", what are they going to
show? "Noein"?

.... Oh look:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/

Sci Fi to Air Ghost in the Shell's Solid State Society, Noein, Tokko
Follow-Up: Sci Fi Channel's schedule indicates its Ani-Monday block will premiere
with Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society on June 11
at 11:00 p.m. ET. As the latest installment of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone
Complex, this movie moves the story ahead two years after the second series.
Bandai Entertainment will sell the movie's DVD on July 3, and Cartoon Network's
Adult Swim programming block will begin airing repeats of the second series on
May 13. Noein, Tokko, and Macross Plus will air on June 18 and again on June 25.

Based on watching one episode, "Tokko" is just crap. ISTR a lot of topless
nudity...

I like what I have seen of "Noein", but I wonder whether its young protagonists
and idioyncratic character designs will appeal to Sci-Fi viewers.

"Solid State Society" is likely a good match, though it seems a bit weird
to split it across networks.

It will be interesting to see how "Macross Plus" holds up on rewatching after
nearly 7 years.

(Uh, CYGTJ--I could've brought up the Apollo Smile ref, but even fewer
would've gotten it.)

Derek Janssen (ah, the days when random viewers could see "Beautiful
Dreamer" on basic cable and come here to ask about it...)

God I miss those days when it all came on in the morning hours (why
can't they expose a new group of young'ums to the classics that
way?)! :-)

Really, this was my first chance to see things prior to my 18th
birthday when I could rent that at the stores (couldn't get my older
brother or parents to do so since I know they'll think I was crazy for
watching 'cartoons' at my age).

Because Streamline went under, ADV and Funi were too busy setting up
their own VOD channels, and Manga was all that SFC could afford to license.

If they could get them, we'd have a lot more to go with
Cagliostro. :-)
