I think I am actually one of the few that line Near. i fact, I having the habit of playing with my hair like he do now lol. He's cool with all those toys that he play with yet his reasoning could only be beaten by his idol L. I see Near as a interesting character because he is like a adult trapped in a kid body. He's character is very cold just like Light as he don't regard his subordinate as human, except very few (as we can see on the scene where most od SPK member got killed by Mello where he show very few emotion) yet he is craving for attention just like a kid. I especially like the part where he ask Rester to go back to USA and when Rester ask Near why, he then reply that is because is never took the plane before and is afraid doing so.

As for the perfect plan of Light, yes the plan is perfect and that's what killed him. It never come to his mind that Mikami might kill Takeda after seeing the news of her kidnapping. His death can also contribute to the fact that he never took Near seriously, merely a annoyance. After defeating 'L', Light think of himself as a God already and feel invincible.

Don't get me wrong, I think Light is a very cool character becose of his complexity. However, at sometime, I just think he is very stupid (such as why bother with killing the FBI or answer the initial challenge from "L" by trying to kill him on TV?). Should he stay true to his saying, not even L can have any clue to capture him.

lol yeah i liked that part about near and the airplane too...it made me laugh.

and i also do agree that Light lost because he was one cocky bastard...i was also thinking he wasn't taking near seriously enough. for one thing didn't near know that if he touched the deathnote that he'd get to see the shinigami? so if he couldn't see him all he had to do was say o and second thought i don't wanna meet you and leave lol...or something like that...so fine i'll admit near was a little cool...but only a little =P

rn't u combining cultures? the ones with skulls and sythes...rn't those grim reapers or whatever? i donno tho i have seen tons of different versions of both shinigami and reapers...lol guess it's whatever fits ur story best =P

It was a quote from Near to Ryuk lol! I chukkle when read that in the Manga. I dont remember if he said that in the anime or not. Ryuk then reply: Heu.. There is those too.

I find the Near in the Manga much more developped then the anime thought.

Death Note is a great anime, however, I agree that the ending was kind of lame. Especially with Near and Mello. Those guys were just really annoying.

I don't really think that Near or Mello are that lame or annoying. It's more the fact that Lawliet was overlly cool and uber awesome as a character. And I do praise the author to be able to sacrifice such character for the sake of advancing the storyline. L dead was mendatory for the developpement of Light character. And even Near said it, that neither him or Mello individually can surpass their idol. So most people just hate them because they are still upset with Lawliett death.

Anyway, I was thinking about the Spoiled Rat Yagami. I wonder if Ryuk would have killed him at the end if he just give up ownership of the Death Note instead of trying to kill Nate. He would have forgot everything related to the Death Note and will be a different person. Ryuk would have been free from his attachment to Light. And the SPK won't be able to do anything because Light would no longer Kira (even if he used to be). So legally, just like a person with Dissociative identity disorder, he wouldn't be found guilty of his charge. And also Near would make sure that all Death Note will be destroyed so there would be no chance for Light to become Kira again. Just a thought. But we all know how the Spoiled Rat decide he want to die lol

Not sure if Yagami giving up the DN would have helped him at all in that situation.
