The number 1 is L definetly. I stated the reasons in a previous thread so I'm not gonna repeat myself^^

And beside L there's actually no char in the series that I'd actually hate.. I don't agree with everybody's point of view but still the characters rocks coz they're all really developed and interesting^^

In my Oppinion i like L the best

i also like light for his uniqe character ( out of normal ) but L is the best.

L hands down, I absolutely LOATHE light -.- I believe in his ideals but in the end he loses sight of them and he changes into a power-seeking fool -.- plus L's personality rocked...

lol L is overrated, although he is pretty awesome, im gonna have to go with Near, at least he finished the job unlike L :D and i like it when Near plays with his little toys lmfao

Well, everyone writes mostly L and Raito

I like them too but don't forget about great 2nd stage characters:
- Teru Mikami (somone mentioned him) with his fanatic behaviour and blind faith in cruel justice
- Misora Naomi - she was only in a few episodes but left a very positive picture of herself (btw. her boyfriend - Ray Penbar - was also cool character)
- Matsuda - seemed for short-minded, stupid, inconsiderate, but very ambitious 100% positive person... and shew the class in the last episode!

L is my favorite, it sucked when i died... Light starts going crazy by the end of the anime. Ryuk is my second favorite
