I was just thinking about that. We all know that in the anime and manga, he got shot by Mello thugs and die later at the Hospital. Now, what bug me is to know how was he suppose to die origginally. And by that I mean, he did make a trade for the Shinigami Eye hence losing therefore half of the remaining of his life. Now from the moment he made the trade for the Eyes until he dies, there is about a day if we push it really hard which mean in any case, he was suppose to be schedule to die the next day anyway should he didn't trade for the Shinigami Eyes. Now what could have possible killed him?

Yeah I have a lot of free time so I thinking too much hahaha!

Note:he reffering to Light's dad Soichiro Yagami ..

I think that he still might have been killed by Mello's gang..possibly by Mello?..
its kinda confusing though but Mello's whole gang was supposed to be completely killed and only Mello was suposed to live there..but instead some lived to kill Light's dad cause he split his life..its in my views anyway

Umm... I don't really know what you meant by how would have Light's Dad originally died but its obvious that he did get shot by mello's gang, which cause him to die in the hospital.

Hmm... perhaps the manga is somewhat diferent to when it shows how Light's dad died or if Light's dad rejected the idea of taking the Shinigami eyes, Light would have something else planned as well as he might have no choice but to kill his dad if he gets in the way of things.

Judging from the rules of the deathnote, there is no such rule that when you use the deathnote to kill too many people on one day, you will die the next day scheduled, but there was a rule made similarly to that when Light created the fake notebook and made up a rule which was "If you don't kill anyone within 13 days using the deathnote, then the user will suffer his/her own death" something like that.

Therefore, if Light's dad was to survive that incident with the mello gang having the shinigami eyes, he wouldn't die the next day unless if he scheduled his own death on that day. How i think he'd originally die is probably cancer or a heart attack which I agree above.
