I'd say Tengen Toppa, Code Geass, Gundam 00 and Gundam Wing. I'm trying to look into watching Macross.

eva comes to mind, tho it was more of a psycological series, and the eva's werent technicaly robots. other than that macross and gundam (most of them) were pretty good. and dont forget my favorite ongoing anime, code geass

^^ Agree but the action isn't that great in Vandread. I liked the Character development and characters more.

yeah the Vandread was great but the main point of anime was the relationship between male and females...so the action was a bit shortcutted for a mecha anime...(maybe its not but when comparing to Gundam, or some fighting anime like Kenichi or Bleach/Naruto then the action is short)
