Hrm...after hearing all the debates..i guess the ending is not bad after all..it is just that..some doesn't like suspend ending and some would wish the story to continue(i am one of them :D).

I love how they were able to capture all the emotions in this anime, it's like no other I have seen before. I do also what them to continue the anime because whenever they do this, I am left dreaming up a continuous version of it, which is cool in itself but annoying as well.

I will agree with that statment. One of the best I have seen in those regards :)

As far as them continuing it, there are some things I would like to more know about. Like more about that head guy at the facility where the Diclonious were. It bugged me a little that they didn't say a whole lot about him. It would be interesting for sure, but for some reason I doubt that they will.

I recently saw the anime of Elfen Lied and read the manga up to what has been translated and I love this anime/manga. I was looking around some forums, and I have compiled a list of arguments about whether the silhouette behind the door at the end was Lucy or not. Some of the arguments I have taken from other people, and some are my own derivations. I would like to share this list and hear what you guys think. Thanks.

BTW, I personally believe that she survived and is behind the door.



Black = IS the Silhouette (Lucy/Nyu is Alive)
Red = IS NOT the Silhouette (Lucy/Nyu is Dead or Alive)

The last episode is titled “No Return”.

The episode title “No Return” has a deeper meaning, such as Lucy/Nyu has moved on from her past and is now a new person.

Wanta barks and wags his tail like he knows the person behind the door. The only other person that Wanta knows is Lucy/Nyu.

Wanta is a friendly dog that likes most visitors.

Lucy tells Nana to live with Kouta in the house, because she wants Nana to do what she can’t do. Lucy does not return because she knows she will die.
Or she can not live with Kouta with the guilt of killing Kouta’s sister and father. Also since the general director is still after her, she is protecting Kouta by staying away from him.

Lucy assumed that she would die in the battle, but she managed to survive.
She initially decided that she could no longer live with Kouta, but some time has passed from her last battle to her appearance at the door; and she came to peace with her conscience and resolved her problems with the director.

The music box stopping signifies that Lucy/Nyu no longer lives in the past, and the working clock is an image of time resuming with a transformed Lucy/Nyu. Also Nyu was the one who doted over the clock, trying to fix it.

The ending of the music box symbolizes that Lucy is officially dead. And the clock chiming signifies the beginning of a new period in the lives of the people in the house without Lucy/Nyu.

In the last battle scene only Lucy’s horn is shown broken off. She is not necessarily dead. Also she is not so easily defeated in a battle, and the soldiers are only shown carrying low caliber weapons.

In the last battle scene Lucy’s horn is shot off by the soldiers. Meaning that the bullets got through her defense and killed her.

In the manga, after Lucy’s battle with Mariko, she loses her horns, which reverts her back to Nyu. And then Nyu goes back to live with everybody at the house.

The anime and manga’s plot started deviating around episode 9. It is likely the anime’s ending is independent of the manga’s plot. Also, if Lucy became Nyuu during the battle she would be defenseless and killed.

Lucy tells Bandoh that he won’t be seeing her again. This would imply that one of them will die, but she spares his life. So by process of elimination, she will die.

Bandoh may be hurt bad enough that Lucy assumes he will die, so she leaves him to let him suffer and die a painful death.

Yuka set out an extra place at the table, perhaps indicating that they expect Lucy/Nyu to come back.

At the very end, when Nana is thinking of Mariko and Lucy, she is sad that those two were unable to enjoy the beautiful things of life. Suggesting Lucy/Nyu is now dead.

Nana only knows that Lucy/Nyu did not return to the house. Or she thinks that Lucy is still out there struggling against the world, unable to sit back and enjoy the pleasures of life.

In the battle, Lucy is committing suicide; she is paying penance for her sins. As proof of this she shoots two of her vectors into the air.

She only shoots two of her vectors into the air, and they start curving down to attack. The other two vectors are probably defending her against the barrage of bullets.

Yeah :) i belive it to.
I watched the ending a couple of times,and well,i think it is Lucy/Nyuu behind the door...but wich one of them it is,dunno for sure.My guess is since she lost both of her horns,that the person behind the door is Nyuu.
But with her limited vocabulary and based on how things turned out in the last ep,i would like it to be Lucy.(kinda wish to find out what would she say to Kohta.If nyuu is behind the door,she would say something like NYUU!wich become a little tiresome)

Well that's my thought on the situatin. :D
