I'm pretty confused about this Negima thing...

so i want to start watching negima now, but there's too many series called negima. my guess is they all related, but obviously they must have a chronological order (date of original airing and stuff) and i cannot get to understand what comes first lol

how many negima series are?
do they have ovas? are the ovas pre-anime or post-anime?
in what order should i watch them?

help me plz :(

I believe that there are two different anime series, Negima! and Negima!?

Negima! was aired first, but neither comes before or after the other. Negima!? is just an alternate telling of the story with less focus on fanservice.

There are also three OVAs and two more on the way. I believe all of them are post-anime.

Right I see where you are lost. Don't worry it's a bit easy to get confused with the shows and OVAs.

This is the order you should watch it in:

Introduction OVAs: 3 episodes 2004 (I don't know the name, search in youtube, hopefully it's there, if not don't worry about not watching it. It just introduces the characters)
Negima! (Also known as Mahou Sensei Negima) 26 episodes 2005
Negima! Haru (Spring) OVA 2006
Negima! Natsu (Summer) OVA 2006
Negima!? 2006 26 Episodes (Just spelt like that, it's not the same as the first series, it's an alternate story. Not much fanservice compared to the first, concentrates more on the comedy)
Mahō Sensei Negima!! 2007 (Live Action) 25 episodes
Negima:Shiroki Tsubasa Ala Alba 2008 3 episodes (This is the current OVA right now, follows the manga story of chapters 176 and 177 in episode 1. Chapters 178-180 in episode 2. And Chapters 182 and 183 in episode 3) Release Dates: Ep1: August 12th 2008, Ep2: November 17 2008 and Ep3: February 2009

That should be all, hopefully this is clear enough for you.
