Dude, avatar is not an anime, it's completely American and if you watch it you can see that. Not saying tis bad, but it is not anime.

Do a search on animeDB and you will see.

But my vote goes to kyouran Kazoku Nikki, or rather Family Frenzy Diary. It is not finished yet but a lot of people get turned off by the initial craziness of it, but there is a deepness to it not found in other similar crazy animes. Also a seriose darkness which is cool as well.

meh depends on your defiition of anime. if you mean a japanese cartoon, then no its not. if you mean a genre of animation with similar characters, plot developement, animation style, setting etc. then i would call it anime.

anyway yea avatar kicked ass. another good american "anime" was afro samurai. samuel jackson did the voice of the main character and he was bad ass.

btw good call on get backers. id forgot about that one.

Ayakashi ~ Classic Japanese Horror

Awesome series, short, horrifying (to an extent) and has very pretty art, yet almost no one has heard of it/talks about it.

most underrated anime huh? well one of my favs that practically no one has heard of is Innocent Venus. although the CG is a bit "..." i love the plot.

I would say Sailor Moon. Too many people judge it based off of the dubs (which sucked) rather than the subs.
