| πάνσοφος ![]() | lol, I watched it and really loved it, right from the first time I heard "Present day, present time...". It's still in my Top 5. SEL can ruin the feeling of security and solid points in life. Everything in it was so easily deniable: family, friendship, human's existence. Computer, that became almost a living creature, mysterious men observing Lain, and most of all - Lain, who is an amazing character. Ahh... I felt like watching it again xD

| Bélias | Lain is one of the more complex stories out there. Ive watched it about 3 times and i still dont completely understand it myself. It goes to show you shows liek this and monster and a few others out there. There is anime out there for adults.

The second time however(after I turned into a geek), I loved it. It's truly a ground-breaking anime. After seeing SEL, you start to doubt what's real and not :D And I agree with jsc315, I have to watch it again to understand it completely. I'm considering to buy the DVDs. The complete show for just 40 €..pretty cheap. |

It was good, but it did make you wonder. Being a paranoid really didn't help me much either. (I have paranoia of the dark, not really fear of the dark. I'm not afraid of it, but I feel like i'm being watched. Of course, when your family has a history of members having slight medium abilities [just being able to sense stuff sometimes. I've had like one to three experiences, but my grandma has had quite a few] it really doesn't help.) But there was just something about the animation that got me. It wasn't fantastic, mostly by todays standards, but there was something about it that just drew you in. |

When stuff that is really the source of a person's well-being is that easily deniable, the anti-social aspect of that person's behavior, the tendency not to care about others floats to the surface and rears its ugly head. The 'strange shadows' that Batou-san was talking about - I think they really add to the visually heavy mood of the story. The howling chorus that said 'Present day... present time', and cackled - it's just another element of the anime that was used effectively to enhance the mood. This is one reason I liked the whole anime - effective combination of sounds and visuals to create a mood, understand the character's emotions, and a solid storyline - all of that conveys a pretty strong message. It also tends to sink in better than when somebody constantly beats you over the head with that on a daily basis, getting nowhere with that, and tightening screws on you in frustration. This is one of those animes that, once the watching was over, prompts me to look around myself, connect with reality, decide that I care about something, and actually take some action based on that. |

Rep Power: 8 ![]() ![]() | yeah, and so I watch it in careful dosages... becouse 3 days ago I watched 2 episodes one after another and got a feeling that "there is something" and so to let my brain relax I watched Macross Frontier... now I am going to watch SEL again... but now even if I get the same feeling I will not back down until its finished, or Lain starts to talk to me... |
