Generally, my preference goes with pretty much everyone else. However, I recently started watching Rurouni Kenshin and, due mainly to lack of sources, I watched most of the episodes in English and I grew quite fond with the dubbing (although some things do sound awkward due to English pronounciation, like Kenshin and Hiten Mitsurugi)

I always watch japanese media with subtitles, but twice I accidentally downloaded dubbed shows and it was a good thing. Full Metal Alchemist: VO is almost as good in english and sometimes the dialogue is better FLCL: VO is actually better in english. Remember, it was released in english before japanese. |

I used to prefer dubbed to subbed because its hard to read and take in the full detail of the art. when i watched subbed anime, i would actually pause it alot so that i could read the text then take in the action. it never really was in sync withthe lips and it sounded funny when they tried but it was easier. then i started to learn Japanese and i found that the tru intent of the dialogue can't really be expressed in english, like their formalitys as a simple example. So now im a subbed fan bacause my grasp on the language isn't good enough to watch without and it helps me learn too. Voice actors in Japan are recognised by the public and there is a much greater call for the profession so of course the skill and effort is much greater. |
